Who Serves On Your Fire Apparatus Committee?

7 posts in this topic

Just curious, who do you select to place on your fire apparatus committee, and why?

Also, do you formally (written, etc) survey department members to see what they want on the next generation of their apparatus?

We have several officers, firefighters, our master mechanic and one of the deputy chiefs.

1 Chief Officer, 1 Company Officer, 1 or 2 career firefighters (ensures every shift is represented) and one member of the call company. The only person that serves on every apparatus committee (ambulance, engine, aerial, etc) is our call rep, who is a retired Cummins Engine trainer, thus his knowledge of all facets of the industry helps immensely.

The Chief, Chief Engineer, 2 senior guys ( usually a member who is familiar with trucks in general)( and someone with a good deal of fire apparatus knowledge (me)) and the engineer of the rig being replaced.

Most of our meeting as a committee are open and any one can sit in, listen and give their $.02 worth. Meetings with the manufacturers representatives are just with the committee.
