I received a letter yesterday stating I passed the exam no score or anything. I wonder if Mt. Vernon hires non-residents for FD?

If you took the test you should be able to get hired. But keep in mind they will exhaust all residents before they hire non residents

That is usually how it works.

I do not know how many residents will be on the list, but I do know that for our tests their are 100's and we have never gotten to them. That is the norm.

It's pretty doubtful Mt Vernon will make it to the non-residents, however without knowing how many took it and passed who knows. If you're really interested in finding out I'd suggest FOILing the list.

The physical agility is usually 6 - 12 months before the list is certified and any hiring can begin. The academy normally runs spring & fall and has no relationship with the test. remember their are multiple lists (Westchester T&V, MV, NR, WP plus LB & GC and Dutchess) that send to the academy.

Let's not jump ahead of ourselves here. Yes there will be a class this fall, but that does not mean Mt. Vernon has plans to send recruits to it. All they've done so far was notify people that they've passed the test. That's only the first step. They still need to canvass, do agilities, interviews, background checks, medical exams etc. There's no way that's all happening in three weeks.

Besides that, unless I'm mistaken, Mt Vernon has residency preference. Meaning Mt Vernon residence will all have to be processed before anyone else is. So if 1,000 residence passed the test, they all have to get processed before a non-resident does. Agility tests cost money, meaning that they aren't going to be doing these tests for people they won't be hiring. If you're not a resident don't expect to be taking the agility anytime soon.

I'm not saying you won't ever get a call, but if you do it will take some time. Don't expect to be called for the first class, that's just how it is.

Again, its much more complicated than that. Just because the department is understaffed doesn't mean they're automatically hiring. They may be understaffed by 15 (And I have no idea where you got that number) but if they only have the budget to send two to the academy, they're hiring two. Hirings depend on a whole bunch of factors, so understaffed or not, its no guarantee.

My best advice is to keep taking tests wherever you can and don't count on one department hiring you. But best of luck with Mt Vernon.

I didn't see this mentioned here but when I handed my application in for this exam on the last official filing date. The lady in the office told me they had extended the deadline a number of days due to a lack of residents signing up for the exam.

What does LB & GC stand for? Sorry if it seems like a dumb question just curious.

A total of 600 people took this exam. I'm 100 percent sure that not everyone passed the exam
