Recommendations for cleaning helmet ear flaps?

Was hoping someone on here had some tips for cleaning ear flaps on a fire helmet.

I currently use a N5A leather New Yorker, in which the ear flaps are not removable.

Any ideas, tips or recommendations for cleaning, while maintaining the integrity of the helmet, are greatly appreciated.

I normally use Simple Green, haven't seen any issues with that.
