Manlius voters approve new station. 10.8 million.

Maybe it's just me but why are firehouses becoming so costly? The majority of the square footage is apparatus bays so when you consider the cost per square foot of the "living space" it is really exorbitant.

22000 square feet. Amazing.

Did you look at the drawing? How huge the living and work spaces are?

Prevailing wage, the wicks Law, and it being a municipal project all drive the cost up.

Current fire station design standards are 14' x 14' doors, 24' high bays and floors that can handle a minimum of 80,000 in every bay also drive up costs.

260-234. Not an overwhelming turnout or show of support.

OK let me shed some more light on this topic consider in living an that side of the county. Manlius currently has two stations and both are extremely cramped but do i agree with this project no they want to close the second station and rely on their head quarters which will increase response time and make them rely more on their dual responses with Fayetteville.

I have some familiarity with the area. Manluis stations are extremely cramped for space. Fayetteville and DeWitt have newer, more modern spaces. DeWitt's firehouse was known as the "Garage-ma-hall." Not sure of how things are now, but these places all had space for live-in college students as well.

Manlius does not have Student bunkins nor have they ever, but Fayetteville Dewitt, and East Syracuse do have Students living there and yes the garage-ma-hall does exist

Curious, how many runs do each of these departments do a year?

2014 Runs: Fayetteville Fire 702 EMS 3052 Manlius Fire 638 EMS 1771 East Syracuse 1096 (includes ems because they only run full arrests)
