  1. Proof why you have to try to mediate problems when they first occur, before the blow up to huge scandals like this. Obviously the issue has been brewing since the expelled chief was a captain. Hopefully we all can learn from this, and motivate us to remedy these sort of incidents while they are still in their infancy.
  2. sal was chief from 2006-2010, Kilduff has been since 2010, both over 2 years in rank
  3. If your giving a sworen statement and thats why you didnt put them on thats what you say. The application process does not state whether you were on good terms only. They want to know all of your employers good and bad terms. If you didnt put them down because hey were off the books then say because you thought it was only positions that you held that were on the books.
  4. My father was a Mahopac Volunteer Firemen, he passed away from a non LODD injury, received the same honors(the flag in front of the firehouse for Purdy was added because of the surrounding departments wanting to help out and I believe because he was the head of the department.) Several members have passed away this year and some decided they did not want these honors. Again, the only reason no one has ever noticed anything is because it wasn't covered by the press. The department also helped give the same honors to FDNY members who have passed away from the area that were not LODD. Like others have stated there is nothing like a LODD funeral. The atmosphere is a lot more somber, you have to park two towns away and take a shuttle just to get close because theres 5-10,000+ firemen who are there to honor a fallen brother they may or may not ever even met. Saluting for 15-20 mins as it takes the family to drive passed the sea of firemen, bag pipe band marching, dignitaries from all over speaking, a motorcade of chopper cops 4 wide 25 deep, flags all over the place. I've frozen my butt off on Staten Island, and Wooster Mass, Ive sizzled my egg rolls in long island, and been drenched right here in Putnam county under the pouring rain. The Purdy Funeral of a 5 min procession passed 200 firemen (who all new him) underneath a flag was a very nice tribute. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and unfortunately its hard to please everyone especially in the fire service. How about we kill this issue since its not going to change the way they operate. Everyone can take what we've discussed and bring it back to their own departments. And however any department decides to choose to honor their dead is good enough for me. But, lets stop beating a dead horse.
  5. Sorry everyone feels this way. No ones arms were twisted to provide any part of that tribute. It has and always will be done by that department. I've been to many funerals lodd and non lodd. I've seen the same show of respect that occurred that day. The way he passed away and the circumstances aren't for us to judge. We don't know all the facts that led up to this tragic event. Just because it was printed or covered on the news doesn't make it true. If it Would've been a line of duty funeral from the brothers in Mahopac I'm sure there would have been thousands of firefighters lining the streets, closing the town to traffic for hours, american flags up and down the streets , bagpipe bands, dignitaries speaking, motorcycle police. Not a couple of fire trucks in a procession, blocking off your commute for 15 minutes. Again not slighting anyone's attempts at what they do for lodd or non lodd, but I've seen much more pomp and circumstance.
  6. The Only reason anyone noticed this time from any other time a member of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department member has passed away because it was covered by the press. Anytime a member passes away thats what the department does. Do I believe it detracts from a LODD funeral, No. In fact hopefully this is the closest thing ever that the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department experiences to a LODD funeral. I can tell you if that sad day does come the men and women of the department will show everyone the difference between this funeral and a LODD. And this does Not slight anybodies efforts at doing what they can for any member who passes away for any reason. On a lighter Note Happy Thanksgiving to everyone
  7. I dont agree with the janitor thing either. But why would a Volunteer Dept. give a rats behind about theIAFF. IAFF doesn't care about the volunteer service, and if any volunteers of that dept. are career elsewhere they would no longer be able to volunteer with that department.
  8. Smart Idea. Ive never heard of a fire starting at night, or someone needing CPR at 2 A.m. Good Luck on the third term
  9. Last I heard from one the members of their department is that it dosent look too good. I cant be sure, just what I heard from one of their guys
  10. I don't think holiday is the right word that should be used ine reference to what happened on 9/11/2001. Pearl Harbor is not a "National Holiday," it is still recognized. I think in our hearts and in our minds is where 9/11 should be. To make it a "National Firefighter's Day" would take away from the memory of the thousands of civilians who perished, or the police officers who died that day. A National Firefighter Day should be declared on a day in history where no Firefighters have died. Hopefully it will remain that way for year to come
  11. Sorry To See Empire Go.......
  12. Just So everyone knows that is a promotionl; exam from Ems to Fire Only. Not Open to The General Population. The Current Promtional list is goin quick Because Most Of them are dropping out.
  13. The 99 List is completly finshed. I was hired off of that list back in 2003. and they are up to 4800+ on the 2002 list.
  14. CPAT is alot Easier than our old agility exam. I think The Person before was refering to that, and not the fact tha CPAT is easy. Also Legacy Credit is for those who died in the line of duty. You dont just get credit for having a family memeber in the FDNY. Don't Worry about your scores the test is still being held up by the courts
  15. [Not to be a blog buster, But there is legislation infront of the STATE not just NYC that all Firefighter/EMTs/Paramedics and Police Officers ride Our Bridges Tunnels and Trains Free.
