Here's an article that does a good job explaining the need from the people who think that they need a new firehouse and more firefighters to cut response times and increase manpower.
    http://www.greenwich-post.com/23002/fire-station-presents-station-and-staffing-initiative/
And the reasons why the town's others oppose it:

    OK,"Morningjoe"
My profile may say "Paramedic" but that is not the extent of my emergency service experience. Yes, I did work for a large, urban County-based Fire Department. But what I choose to put in my profile is my choice - and doesn't completely divulge my work experience or what I now do for work (not volunteer, I can assure you).
And before I go on and on, urging you to reread my post, let me summarize it for you that I did not defend the 2 man engine staffing. I simply stated that the staffing scenario in the article does not take into consideration ALL resources and staffing that Greenwich has for calls. I was annoyed that Seth posted an article simply to stir crap, without doing any research to give the whole story.
Stop calling me someone who is suppose to "be on the same team" as you - I'm NOT a volunteer (unlike you). I AM a Paramedic (unlike you). I was a career firefighter (unlike you). And, I have first hand experience with the municipal services and issues in Greenwich (probably UNLIKE you, but your profile doesn't say where you're actually from).
And, just so you don't look like a fool in the future, Atropine was never in the protocol for "heartattack." There is no "Heartattack" protocol. Please stop using EMS verbiage that you obviously don't understand. You remind me of the psych patient I had a short time ago who told me that she was in "Cardiac Arrest." She too (just like you) didn't know what she was ranting about, and all I did was laugh about how stupid she sounded.

You probably should start a thread when you know more about the topic than one slanted news article....but alas, that's not the way it goes.
Greenwich is truly not "understaffed" as you suggest. Nor is it relevant to remark on how "wealthy" the town may be, or it's citizens. There are 8 fire stations in Greenwich, with all but one staffed with paid firefighters. There may be a need for more coverage in the northwest corner, but the Fire Dept doesn't take into consideration the next closest station, just a couple of miles away that is all volunteer. What Greenwich needs is a better plan to manage its resources, not necessarily a new, state of the art firehouse. Get all the facts before you stir Mr Granville.

The Port Authority is being penalized by the FAA for not having a separate entity to deal with ARFF and that they are using Police Officers instead. The FAA told them that they need to create a separate department ASAP or that they will be penalized until one is formed. What I was trying to say is that this incident doesn't really help the PAPD's case. I'm not saying that these guys don't have the training because they do, it's just that with an incident like this it makes the FAA think that these guys aren't adequate enough to do the role of ARFF and that the need for a separate FD is obvious.

Don't see the correlation. If there was a separate FD, it wouldn't have changed the outcome in this incident.
The vehicle is supposed to be able to go off-road, right? Maybe this is simply a mechanical failure and not operator error. Who knows?

    Date: 11/25/2013
    Time: 07:00
Incident Type: Protest at Construction Site
Location: 66 Summer St (between Broad St & Main St)
    District: Stamford
    Units: Stamford Police
Description: Three protesters have climbed a construction crane (approximately 15 stories up) at the site of the Park Square West Phase II building. This is on very narrow section of Summer St next to Majestic Theater. SPD on scene, evaluating incident. There is at least one protester on the ground that may have radio contact with those on the crane. Will likely call Hostage Negotiation Team to deal with individuals. Governor Malloy is due at site for event later this morning for an event.
UPDATE: Media now reporting that 2 out of 3 protestors have been brought down and that the reason for the protest was some sort of union issue. (no reports on if it was pro-union or anti-union).
UPDATE 2: This was not a union related protest, it was a part of a larger protest of UBS's involvement in strip mining in PA. The same group protested at the Parade, had lookouts on nearby buildings and then charged the UBS HQ, eventually chaining themselves up on the 5th floor.

I need to know.. Does anyone actually think the public care about this when they see it? We all see it because we are on the job and notice it. I bet if you asked anyone in a parking lot when we come across these vehicles, they would A. have no clue where the Town is in the state and B. Not really care. Now i am not talking about just this one instance. I am talking about any time it happens. The public do not care until it is a big deal (ie. a accident or something). John Q public is going to be more worried about his shopping, getting to work, (why aren't my darn kids here where i said i would pick them up) then even care about this. Plus nothing will ever happen to change it. You can make rules that you cant go out of town with it but so what. What if he needs to go see a few chiefs or need to make a pick up somewhere of some gear, is he going to check in with mommy to ask if he can leave the block? Exactly. He is the chief, he is the boss. you might not like it but he has the authority to go where he wants. If on the other hand he takes a apparatus then ya we need to know every mile you are gonna take.
Now let the man shop and stop stirring up a ruckus.

im sorry but i think some of you are missing the picture here. A Parade is for the community. A celebration of whatever it may be. Celebrating America or troops coming home or something within the community. Its very much American as apple pie. When i hear the "should have used the time for training or done this or done that or the rig should be covering." As long as he dept has resources to cover, go to the parade. Let the people enjoy a weekend and see firetrucks, police cars and Ambulances and bands. I just don't get it. Next parades will be banned because they are too patriotic according to the trend the country is on. Some of you need to get a grip and enjoy life.

  16. tommyguy liked a post in a topic by HubEng21 in Firefighting Tourists Paying to Help Fight Detroit's Fires...
Forget the idea that Detriot is looking for people to pay to be firefighters... we should all be there (although we cannot be) to help this city; fire, police, financially, etc. (In an unrealistic solution... possibly) FEMA should send over several companies from surrounding cities, towns, states, etc to cover for the time, even Police. Or, instead of that $1 million fireboat that Union Fire Company got and had to return, the government should buy a couple rigs and send qualified FF's over to assist week to week. I understand... its your city and your brotherhood and you want your own guys back and maybe the government should help you financially, but the city is far beyond falling apart; take any help you can get.
