Boston can dump the snow in the same body of water, that they dumped the tea. --------If of course that isn't a violation

What happened to the "rugged New Englander?"

If you live in the northeast, it snows from time to time. Deal with it.

This is more than a little snow. This was a once in a hundred year snow covering for Boston.

I was in the north end of Boston today driving a Mercedes Sprinter Ambulance, the sheer amount of snow made it difficult for ME to get around. I am not sure how a Boston FD or EMS would be able to do it. There was still much of Boston, including streets, COMPLETELY buried in snow drifts 3 feet high. I saw a line of 10 international chassis dump trucks trucking snow from downtown to Salem, NH.

It's no doubt a little different in the City where there's no place to put the snow. I was in Boston Fri/Sat and saw first hand that cars were buried on both sides of the streets (at least in the North End, Southie and much of Dorchester). Residents have no place to put the 6 ft of snow that's piled between their cars. Most of the sidewalks were clear and a single lane was passable through most side streets, but you have two choices to put the snow: in the street or into the sidewalk. Saw L18 out 4 or 5 times in our travels, they seemed to get around, no doubt they're used to tight conditions.

Sounds like they need one of those giant snow melter's they use in NYC

Indeed they do.

They are borrowing snow melters but they were just too many streets to clean all of them apparently. Not sure how much they can get done before today's storm.

They really need to institute a street cleaning policy in the winter time. Who knows what the stat is, but they must lose 40-50% of street parking spots city-wide because of snow piles (which ice up).

Boston has always had the Mother Nature approach to snow. She left it, she will take it away, eventually.

Hard to know what would work or is feasible, but I believe Portland Maine does the Odd side/Even side plowing. Travelling home from Boston it was easy to see that Portland was clearly in better shape even after adding more snow than Boston had. Though overall not nearly the size of Boston, the congested areas still were cleared in anticipation of another foot today!

Here in our little 'Burg, the DPW has been given a snow removal plan by the Council that failed to address numerous issues, now coming back to bite us. Our crews shovel out all the hydrants and DPW comes back and fills them back while winging back a day later.
