FDNY Squad 800

Its a spare squad. I think it can be used as an extra squad similar to when Rescue 6 was put in service during the convention. I am not sure but I think it is equipped with tools.

Its just a spare. Rescue 6 is an actual rig that is fully equipped ready to roll.

It's a reserve rig. Should be fully equipped and ready to go, but has seen time as a spare when needed.

What is the red X on the window of the SOC vehicle in the last picture? I have seen them on other rigs also.

I'm pretty sure that the red X is mike Martinelli's (spelling) watermark for his pictures.

it is. I do have pictures of Squad 800 operating as Squad 270 from a few yrs ago.

Squad 800 is a "frankenstein" of sorts, as it was assembled from a variety of other FDNY apparatus "donors".

It's also interesting to note that Texron (a commercial truck shop) in the Bronx did a majority of the re-assembly and bodywork. I believe this was rebuilt in 2004 or 2005.

I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong...

I was told by someone that it was the old Eng 66 from CO-OP City.

The number is derived from the old bell system.

8=Squad

5=Engine

7=Truck

The reserve engines are 500 series and trucks 700 series.

So when you hear 5-7 signal on the dept. radio you know that response is for an engine and truck. If you need more I'm sure JBE could indulge.

Here's one I dug up. I took this at an all hands on Merrick Boulevard in 2005.

As far as I know, it's a reserve, and it can be put in use as a spare. If memory serves me right, Squad 41 or 288's old rig is being used as a spare.

Sq.41's old 1998 rig is the spare as well as the 92 cab with Sq-61's 2000 squad body as a spare also.
