Barack Obama- 44th President Of The United States

SpartanML, who said that? That was a very good quote. It sounds like something Alexis de Tocqueville would say, but I don't know for sure.

The quote is most often attributed to Lord Woodhouselee, Alexander Tytler, 1747 - 1813.

52% to 46% is not a mandate. Do 46% of Americans simply don't count? I guess if your an Obama supporter they don't.

Goose, the fact of the matter is this; whether you or I agree with Obama's politics, he is now the President-elect; the Democrats still maintain control both houses of congress; that in and of itself is a clear mandate to do what they want to do and trust me when i say this, they will do what they want to do. You may recall when the Republicans controlled both houses when Bush (W) was President; they did what they wanted to and people said they had no mandate. Its just the way things are done in this country.

Joe the plumber became a media frenzy because he questioned Obama on his tax plan. Once that happened all the left wing media entities began to hound him and dig as much dirt on him as they can. It is true that McCain brought him up during the debate but he was using him as an example as to who would suffer under the tax plan. Matthews, Oberman and the rest of the left winged, one sided idiots had a field day on him. Fox news was the only network in my opinion that was fair on both candidates.

as soon as you brought up fox news and used the word fair and balanced  , joe looked for the media he hired agents to schedule his press appearances now whether you agree or not thats the facts, fox news and cnn tore into joe last night over the fact he wanted air time then didnt answer the questions.

he's been signing autographs and hes writing a book.

one more FACT joe the plumber did more interviews than palin and thats sad

Its great being able to hand over our country to a terrorist! God Bless America

I guess you didn't listen to John McCain last night. He's going to work to help the new Pres. fix the problems facing us. Calling Obama a terrorist helps nobody! Get over it! Do some good.

Well, I hope this serves as a wake-up call for the Republican party to retrace their conservative roots, step away from the Jesus Juice Fundies, and remember what they're supposed to stand for. That's things like the Constitution (separation of church and state + bearing arms), fiscal restraint and state's rights. First McCain disappointed me when he unzipped the Neo-con fly and bend down before them. The John McCain who ran in 2000 was the John McCain who would have run this nation to greatness. We'd be in a MUCH BETTER PLACE NOW if THAT John McCain had taken the nomination in 2K. What I saw these last months was a convincing marionette likeness dancing to the tune of Rove / Cheney. That REAL John McCain is where the future of the party lies, and this election proved how toxic the NEW Republican party is. Sarah Palin? The future of the Republican Party? Please. She belongs at a church bake sale. There were PLENTY of FAR MORE qualified and realistic female VP potentials out there. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! Honestly, I almost hope that picking Palin was a deliberate stab at throwing the election. The present economic situation is part of the immerging global economic cycle. It WILL be worked out, but the probable time-scale will make THIS new president look ineffective. Best to let the Democrats take the fall .

I look at it this way... the Democrats have been handed the opportunity to hang themselves good and high or shock us all. The way I see it, Obama has 1.5 years until the mind-term elections to prove that he and a Congress-full of Democrats can find their butts with the aid of both hands. If he proves as ineffective as many believe, the blue tide will shift to red again and his chance is vapor. He WILL be the new Carter and a TRUE CONSERVATIVE Republican will step in.

Will OBama destroy this country? I think you give him too much credit. Bush didn't, but he and his men behind the big curtain sure tried. So long as the 2nd Amendment secures my right to bear arms and so long as the police, military and other similarly patriotic citizens realize their responsibility to be the true protectors of our nation, even from a corrupted leadership, I doubt it.

Notice that Obama supporters "would have rioted" if he lost, I haven't read on one riot due to McCain losing! Hmm!

Give it a year, people will be begging for Bush! Be careful what you wish for, now we got it and are stuck with it for ATLEAST 4 years. I think he will be the "gift that keeps on giving" long after his term.

Wow. I really didn't want to get involved with this, but:

I guess all of you crying "socialism" are going to give up your disablility benefits, pensions, Medicare, etc, since those are "socialist" programs. Also, I assume you will all stop attending "10-13" parties. I know some of you will say "I earned it!"....but if you get hurt on the job and cannot return to work, then how do you "earn" continued disability benefits? What about the federal bailout of the banks??? Is that not a socialist move?

John McCain had numerous health problems, and would have been the oldest president elected into office. I like the guy, I just don't think he'd make a good President. I'm not going to even address those that think Sarah Palin would make a better president then Obama....

Also, as far as the racial concerns. Several states passed laws yesterday banning adoption of children by gay or lesbian couples. I guess that having children grow up in orphanages and foster homes is better then having them grow up in homes with parents that actually want to be parents. Now that we have an African-American President, America is seemingly finding a new group to throw their bigotry and prejudice towards. Why do we feel the need to judge these people? What happened to the seperation of Church and State? Are these people bothering us or doing our country harm? What right do we have to say they can't be parents? What happened to this being a "free country"?

I've never seen so much taken out of context then I have with PRESIDENT Obama. He has the power to inspire Americans, and that is very important right now. This has been one of the most historic elections ever, and there is a reason for that. We need somebody like Obama. Especially after 8 years of Bush and Cheney, and their gross incompetence.

Give the guy the benefit of the doubt, especially after Bush has done irreversible damage to this nation that won't be repaired in our lifetime, no matter who or what happens. Destroyed our image. People are crying about terrorism, etc....but I live and work near Fort Hood, one of the largest military installations in the free world. I see the news about all the US soldiers who are killed almost every day, and I see the way vetrans are treated. Bush and the Republicans are "strong against terrorism"? Well, they've sure killed a lot of American citizens, destroyed and devestaed families, destabilized an entire nation (Iraq), and have forced those who chose to serve into more tours than they signed up for. Oh yeah, anyone seen Bin Laden lately? Good job Bush!!

I hate to sound rash but i dealt with this group-think garbage in college while i studied politics and it scares me that so many could so blindly follow someone, let alone elect the most unexperienced and unproven candidate EVER.

Group think garbage? Just cause you disagree with their opinions doesn't make it group-think garbage. Your posts now and in the past clearly state your opinions, and your entitled to them, just as everyone else is.

Just cause you don't care for Joe Biden, or Obama, or anyone, does not make it gospel.

Everyone really needs to respect others opinions, even you might disagree.

I am not a mind reader, but I have to think that what PJ Reilly was alluding to, and I think he is perceptive on this, is that historically there is a post-election "bounce". There was no bounce here. Sign of things to come? Who can say. I do believe we have a long hard road ahead of us.

" GOD BLESS OUR MESS " .

.

How long is it before we totaly stop saluting the flag that our fathers fought to protect.

.

How long is it before the national anthem is not played/performed as it is now.

.

How long is it before we realize WE HAVE MADE A TRERRIBLE MISTAKE.

.

I only hope and pray we live to see this alleged change he promises.

.

I cant say Mcain was 100% the right choice either but this man was just elected for the wrong reason.

.

I am proud to have been alive to witness history ( our first black president ) but he was elected on lies and we as a nation will SUFFER TERRIBLY.

.

But hey those cops on this forum enjoy the overtime ( until you reach that target tax bracket where you give it all back ) as certain people will think they are now above the law as I spoke to a friend who was working (ON THE JOB ) o.t. in harlem last night he couldnt believe with the large police presence the locals were just smoking blunts right in front of them in celebration of Obama's victory stating YO WE IN .......

A society which has forsaken duty to country in favor or personal gain, A military which dwindled consistantly due to governmental budget constraints and lack of popular support, a military reliant on foreign aid and private contractors/mercenaries to fulfill it's responsibilties, a society plagued by moral and ethical decay, a representative governemnt for and by the people which overwhelmingly became the perview of special interests and the wealthy, a government consitently plagued by corruption and greed, a populace increasingly dependent on government subsidy, a society which by losing it's manufacturing and educational advantages became hostage to foriegn interests, a government consistently "in the red" with ever increasing taxes coupled with reductions in services, epic fiscal irresponsibilty on both the personal and "national" level, a society increasingly distracted by entertainment and celebrity, a populace blindly following those who promised all and delivered nothing, a previously industrious "middle class" society in which the gap between the wealthy and the poor grew daily..with the wealthy becoming fewer and richer, a society where me replaced we.

America in 2008............no Rome circa 450 A.D. just before the fall.

Rome rotted from the inside out, and history repeats itself.

Rome fell in 1453 when the Ottoman Turk Warloard Mehmed II overthrew the capital at the time.

Only part of Rome fell in 450. So by your analogy we should get ride of all of the states the wanted McCain. Its ok,they produce less 25% of the revenue in this country. More of them receive money in form of medicare, Social security, unemployment and subsidies then in any of the people in the blue states. And those are facts, look them up, if you have time to stop drinking the GOP "kool-aid". The GOP in this country was humiliated last night, and for good reason, they drove this country right into the ground. For those who wanted McCain, sucks for you, turns out you do not know what America needs because you are out of touch and do not know what America wants.

I said it once and I will say it again, THANK GOD OBAMA WON.

Actually the statements weren't meant to be partisan, just thought provoking about the state of our nation...regardless of who got elected. And while Constantinople fell in 1453 it was the capital of the Byzantine Empire..sometimes referred to as the Eastern Roman Empire which had been split from Rome, with it's own Emperor/government for some time prior to 450. Rome itself and therefore the Roman State fell in or around 450 A.D.

Obama is the President -elect end of story. I don't have to like it, nor do I have to remain silent in that dislike. I fear many of his policies will lead us down the wrong road, especially internationally, and again I am free to express that view when and where I choose. I don't need any "kool aid", nor the time to drink it to make that decision. 46% of Americans feel as I do, not all of whom live in those red states. In all fairness though the Republican party did indeed suffer a tremendous defeat, and one which it had coming. So while Obama is the President -elect, any Democrat should have taken the election by a far wider margin when the sitting Republican President has a 20% approval rating.

I am an American first and as such I will support our President. But just as the now victorious patriotic Democrats and many other Americans watched, endlessly commented on and ultimately rejected the Republican leadership so now will I and other Republicans return the favor when necessary....as is our right and responsibility.

I'm no religious zealot by any means, I don't even go to church half the time..but even I'm bothered by the seemingly Messianic complex surrounding our President- elect. What's next walking on water?

He's just a man..nothing more, nothing less. I hope his supporters aren't expecting too many miracles.

It is my strong belief that many people who vote for candidates do not understand what that candidate's views, beliefs, and platform are.

I think that is what happened here.

What is troubling to me is that it is clear that taxes need to go up to dig ourselves out of this hole we are in. As an analogy, think of running this country like you might run your household or personal finances.

The government is spending more than it is making. It is using credit cards to pay for day to day living expenses, and instead of looking for ways to tighten the belt a notch or two, I fear that the recently elected are looking for new ways to spend money.

If spending remained at it's current level, and taxes were raised a bit, we could start making headway. But, the promises made were that taxes would be cut for most Americans. Does not compute.

What is going to happen when the promised tax cuts do not materialize? And what is going to happen when those who voted SOLELY because they thought they were going to get showered in dollars in the entitlement carnival come to the realization that there *IS* no such thing as a free lunch?

The author Rober A. Heinlein wrote:

"A perfect democracy, a 'warm body' democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally has no internal feedback for self correction. It depends solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of citizens...which is opposed by the folly and lack of self-restraint of other citizens. What is supposed to happen in a democracy is that each sovereign citizen will always vote in the public interest for the safety and welfare of all. But what does happen is that he votes his own self-interest as he sees it...which for the majority translates as 'Bread and Circuses'

Bread and Circuses is the cancer of democracy, the fatal disease for which there is no cure. Democracy often works beautifully at first. But once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader--the barbarians enter Rome."

Come on now....get real! Weren't we all 18-20 years old at one time? Didn't we have all the answers to every question, and know everything there was to know? I used to be that way, and I had a full head of hair back then, too.

Then I turned thirty, went bald, and became a Republican. I've been like this for years, and I like it this way. I've decided to avoid the bad comb-over by shaving my head, and by supporting a candidate who agrees that the money I earn is, well.....my money. I guess that would make me a Skinhead up there in Ben & Jerry land.

I wouldn't trash anyone for voting for the big O-Man, but it just shows a total lack of class when somebody attacks somebody else on an internet forum about their personal choice. Like hair, youth, and a bad President, naivete is only temporary. Thank God for that.

Rome was divided. What had been the Western Empire fell shortly after the death of its last Emperor, the Visigoth Theodoric I, in 451 A.D, which heralded in the Dark Ages. The Eastern Empire, or more properly the Byzantine Empire collapsed in the 15th century, almost one thousand years later. By that time, anything that the two empires once had in common was nominal, at best.

That said, why don't you tell us what exactly it is that America needs? Even better, what is it that P.E. Obama offers to fill those needs? I'm over forty and a Republican, so by your inference, I must be too stupid to figure it out myself.
