On the morning of Saturday August 15, 2009 Westchester County Battalion 13 and the Croton Falls Fire Department hosted a multi-department drill at a June Road home in the town of North Salem. This drill included several different firefighting tactics, such as tanker shuttle, pump operations, search and rescue, ventilation, firefighter bail out, hose line advancement and fast team operations. Firefighters from Croton Falls, Goldens Bridge, Somers, South Salem, Vista, Pound Ridge, Bedford Hills, Brewster, Continental Village, Ridgefield CT, Mill Plain CT spent the day rotating through the different stations. With 1,250 feet of 5" hose laid down the driveway by Brewster's hose reel truck, it took 3 engines and 1 ladder to flow a total of 172,000 gallons of water. We were able to flow 1,400 gallons per minute uninterrupted for 2 hours. We were able to accomplish this with 9 tankers running between two draft fill sites. After firefighters performed at each evolution they were sent to a rehab area which was established by The North Salem Ambulance Corps. and Somers FD rehab unit. When working with departments from different counties and states radio communications are not always easily achieved but with the assistance of Westchester County Department of Emergency Services Field Com 1, all of the participating departments were able to communicate with each other with out any difficulties. Special thanks to the Croton Falls Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for providing breakfast, lunch and beverages through out the day and to The Mahopac Fire Department who was on stand-by for Croton Falls.
