Yonkers USAR

Today I started wondering about the Yonkers USAR program. Is it FEMA authorized? If not, who calls them out etc.? Is everyone trained in FEMA standards or their own? Thanks in advance :)

FEMA does not "authorize" USAR programs

They can be called by anyone covered under Mutual Aid.

FEMA does not have its own training "standard" they used NFPA standards.

The FEMA USAR system is 28 teams that are federally funded and must meet a number of specific FEMA requirements. The number (28) was locked in and can only grow with congressional approval.

NY TF2 (OFPC) is also not in the FEMA USAR system.

That's what I thought.

Heard some scuttlebutt that they were going to start cutting back FEMA USAR, any truth to that? I see a lot of the teams listed as "Conditionally Available" everyday on the FEMA Ops Briefing.

I know CT and NJ's Task Forces are part of the State USAR System.

Do they have their own system for staffing or do they follow FEMA guildlines?

Does it have to be? USAR is an interesting concept, it's understandable that people want to know how it works. Besides, if it's a resource available to be called to major incidents all over the place, it would seem prudent to understand its capabilities and organization.

I am very busy until next week. This is a good question and either I or someone else from YFD will respond as soon as time permits.
