We were neighbors of the Bristol Family growing up, I remember kevin when he was just a little squirt. I remember him as a kid ridding in Peekskill's engine 131 as it carried his father Owen to his final resting place. I have so many good memories of the Bristol family. It's a sad day for the Bristol Family, the Peekskill Fire Dept. and the world in general. Rest in Peace Brother.

Kevin was a great fire fighter, a great mentor and an all around great man. His passing is a loss for the entire community he served. Kevin always had a smile and a kind word. He worked hard to provide for his family and would give anything to help someone in need. I'm going to miss you Kevin. Go easy brother.

Terribly sad news to hear. While I didn't know Kevin personally, I know he graduated from Peekskill High School in the same class as my eldest daughter. So that means he was still a young man. And I did know his father, Owen from my days as Board Chairman of the Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps and as a Peekskill City Councilman. Now as a Fire Commissioner in Connecticut I can appreciate the hurt the Bristol Family and the Peekskill Fire Department are experiencing on the loss ot Kevin, since my department lost a veteran firefighter of similar age under similar circumstances just a few months ago. My sincerest condolences to the Bristol family, the Peekskill Fire Department and the entire Peekskill Community. May Kevin rest in Peace.

The Last Alarm

My father was a fireman, he drove a big red truck
and when he'd go to work each day
he'd say, "Mother, wish me luck".

Then dad would not come home again, until sometime the next day.
But the thing that bothered me the most was
the things some folks would say.
"A fireman's life is easy. He eats and sleeps and plays,
and sometimes he won't fight a fire for many, many days."

When I first heard these words,
I was too young to understand.
But I knew when people had trouble
dad was there to lend a hand.

When my father went to work one day
and kissed us all good-bye, little did we realize
that night we would all cry.

My father lost his life that night, when the floor gave way below.
I wondered why he'd risked his life for someone he did not know.

But now I truly realize the greatest gift a man can give,
is to lay his life upon the line so
someone else might live.

So as you go from day to day and pray to God above,
say a prayer for your local firemen.
He may save the ones you love!
