Monitoring Westchester County PD hearing new units

11-Adam, 11-Boy, 11-Charlie, Etc.

They are Mount Kisco PD now dispatched by WCPD.

It seems like Mount Kisco PD is getting closer to the Westchester County Police merger.

They also patched the Mount Kisco PD Freq. 154.650 to the County PD Freq. If you look at the WCPD Hot line Roll Call MK is 11 hence the 11 Post numbers from WCPD.

Not living in the county any more I am behind the times - what is bringing this on?

I know this has been brought up before, but I don't recall the answer. If the County can absorb police services, why can't the County absorb fire services as part of its 'Department of Public Safety' umbrella?

Barry?

State law is silent on who provides law enforcement, other than the requirement to have law enforcement, so village town, county (which includes Sheriff) or State is acceptable.

State law specifically prohibits county fire. In fact in the 1980's they had to pass laws to allow counties to run hazmat teams and in the 1990's to run USAR teams.

So when local departments get taken over by County PD, what happens to the Town officers? Did the work under their exisitng contract? Do they work for the County? What uniforms do they wear? Do they use same patrol cars and markings?

This is what will probably happen, the officers will become "Westchester County" Police Officers. They will, in effect, "lateral" over to the WC Police, keeping their pension rights and seniority. No one will lose their job. They will wear WC uniforms. The cars will be marked as WC Police. They will be paid as WC Police. The former Mt Kisco Police will probably not complain, as the WC Police salary would be a raise.

Their contract will become void.

The Mt. Kisco Police, for all intents and purposes, will cease to exist.

Do County PD Officers working Mount Kisco (Or Ossining or Cortland for that matter) have to have specific knowledge or special training (through a memo or whatever) of the sometimes intricate and specific local laws and ordinances?

And will Mount Kisco get a preference for Spanish speaking officers, since a portion of the area they serve is Spanish as the first language?

Is this still happening? Haven't heard Mount Kisco cars or dispatches on County PD frequency in the past several days.

It sounds like they aren't operating on WCPD's frequency because they are continuing to operate on their own frequency with WCPD simulcasting the dispatches on both frequencies (you won't hear them on WCPD, only on MKPD and vice versa)

It says they are still pursuing the consolidation, but they are appointing a new Chief?

Mount Kisco Village Board Appoints New Police Chief

For the first time in more than two years, Mount Kisco will have a permanent police chief.

yes sir.

Not what the article says. The merger is still a possibility. There are other reasons that this could have been done that does not have anything to do with if they merge or not.

And they will get better cars, based on what I have been told about MK's current vehicles. :D

OK so now what happens to a Chief when departments merge? Had he remained a sergeant then he would have laterally become a county sergeant. Does a local chief get some sort of county deputy chief position? It seems that operationally they would not need nearly so many chief officers. Although it seems unfair that if the county HR wanted the position filled to make it essentially temporary should the merger go through.

It could be as simple as giving him a pay and rank bump before he leaves. Not sure what they did when VOPD merged. Maybe they leave, fully knowing they will be out of a job, and if so, trust me, they are not walking away empty handed.
