If it is only temporary why are YFD Units saying to; 60 Control instead of Yonkers? I know that YFD had some serious talks with the County a year ago or so about moving their Dispatch operations to 60 Control when Sweeny was Comr. either way it sounds like it's working.

Because you always say who you are speaking to, and they are speaking to 60 control at that moment so they say 60 control.

Does Yonkers FD have a backup radio system? What failed on their that's going to take so long to fix? Do they have any Yonkers FD Dispatchers staged at 60 Control to assist?

Control to assist?

Why would they need to stage anyone at 60?

Why would they need to stage anyone at 60?

I actually see that as a valid question and not a statement that 60 is in someway incapable of doing the job. A YFD dispatch would probably be better familiar with streets, locations, unit assignment and problems that crop up in certain areas with calls. Based on this valuable added resource a YFD would be a great asset.

As far as, "it seems to be working" thats incorrect. I have been listening to the scanner since this situation unfolded and their response time has increased by 2-4 minutes at least. That is a huge problem, especially in cardiac related runs. It appears the calls still come in through YPD didpatch, then they get routed to 60 control which is apoarently causing the increase in response time. Also there has been alot of confusion and incorrect units dispatched to runs, then corrections which also cause more delays. Im not saying its 60 control or anybodys fault, but anytime response times are increased, thats a problem. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

Is the main problem a repeater or dispatch center issue? For a center to be down this long it would appear to be an extensive issue. Maybe someone with better insight on YFD could shead some light. On a separate note I know that YFD has a pretty state of the art fieldcom, could that double as a dispatch center albeit not ideal?

If it is only temporary....

Here's something that has boggled my mind since I moved to Westchester....WHY are all the cities self dispatching, the county dispatching most of the county, and towns and villages operating on separate non-trunk frequencies?!?!?!? I've more than noticed that the communication structure of this county is extremely over-complicated. WHY? (I'm going to start a new thread to try to figure this one out)

Do they have any Yonkers FD Dispatchers staged at 60 Control to assist?

They had a firefighter and an officer there to assist I believe.
