  1. Pics?!

We have pics. Our website is in the midst of being rebuilt and should be online soon. This incident will be a good one to get initial interest in our website ;)

DOT had to come with a front loader and bury the carcass on the side of 684. We washed the road down and had to close NB 684 for an hour to do so. The debris was approximately 2/10 of a mile long and everywhere in sight in the right lane. It was very fortunate that no one received serious injuries except obviously Bullwinkle. I *believe* 6 out of the 9 cars were towed (but I can't swear to that number). One car flipped over, occupant crawled out with our assistance, the initial vehicle struck had it go over the windshield and the others received damage to the front ends and engines.

  2. E138 was refurbished prior to me getting to GBFD. I spoke to one of our ex-chiefs last night on this subject. It was refurbished out of necessity due to severe wear and tear on the compartments I was told.

Thank you for the clarification on "CF"!

Fire damages circa-1790 farmhouse in North Salem

    By TERENCE CORCORAN

    THE JOURNAL NEWS

    (Original publication: November 28, 2007)

NORTH SALEM - Fire investigators were trying to determine the origin of a blaze that caused extensive damage yesterday to a circa 1790 farmhouse.

Croton Falls Fire Chief Brendan McKenney said nothing appeared suspicious about the 1:25 p.m. blaze at the Samuel Wallace farmhouse at 1 Wallace Road.

A quick response by firefighters from Croton Falls, South Salem, Brewster and Ridgefield, Conn., likely saved the white farmhouse, which fronts Titicus Road, less than a mile from the Connecticut border. Firefighters from Bedford Hills and the Mill Plain department in Danbury, Conn., also responded.

Firefighters battle fire, summer heat at Katonah blaze

    By FRANK BECERRA JR.

    THE JOURNAL NEWS

    (Original publication: June 27, 2007)

KATONAH - Several firefighters suffered heat exhaustion fighting a house fire overnight.

The fire was reported just after midnight at 264 Cherry St. The residents of the home got out safely. The Katonah Fire Department had to deal with live electrical lines down in the front yard as firefighters attacked the blaze.

Katonah called for mutual aid from Bedford Hills, Mount Kisco and Goldens Bridge firefighters.

The Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called to the scene to make sure firefighters were hydrated and to give them wet towels as they exited the burning house on a very warm summer night. A few firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team responded to try to determine a cause.

  7. Who built your site? It looks pretty sharp. Was it someone within your department or did you have someone else build it? I ask as I am the lone member of the committee for the GBFD website which I inherited. It is in desperate need of an overhaul. I was curious who you used and fees. If you want to send that privately if you don't wish to post it, I am OK with that also.

    Thanks in advance!

Troopers shot in Catskills, manhunt continues

    POSTED: 11:20 a.m. EDT, April 25, 2007

    Story Highlights

    • Two New York state troopers are shot in Catskills mountain community

    • Suspect was being sought in shooting of another trooper

    • Injured troopers flown by helicopter to hospital

    • Three New York state troopers were shot -- one fatally -- by fugitive last year

MARGARETVILLE, New York (AP) -- Two state troopers were shot Wednesday morning in this Catskill Mountains community as police closed in on a suspect in the shooting of another trooper hours earlier, authorities said.

The troopers were flown by helicopter to a hospital, said Maureen Tuffey, a spokeswoman for the state police in Albany. She did not describe the extent of their injuries.

The hunt for the suspect started after Trooper Matthew Gombosi was shot in the torso during a traffic stop in the Margaretville area on Tuesday. Police said his body armor saved him from serious injury.

The shootings in the Margaretville area, about 65 miles southwest of Albany, were the latest in a difficult year for New York State Police.

Three troopers were shot -- one fatally -- last year by fugitive Ralph "Bucky" Phillips before the jail escapee was captured in September.

Another trooper was gunned down by a bank robber in March near Elmira. Last April, a trooper died in a crash near Syracuse while chasing a speeding motorcyclist.
