  1. In hindsight, had I been aware that the incident in Croton was unfolding the way it did, I was focused on ours, I would have had a discussion with the medic about diverting the helicopter.

    It sounds like their circumstances were more pressing. I wish there was a way to manage that better. But what can you do?


  2. This is true. E94 is out to bid finally after a 4 year wait for the village to act on the truck committees spec.

    The engine is slated to act as a tender for TL40, carry a tool for our highway extrication work, and operate as a 2nd due rig for most calls.

    A lot of hard work by the truck committee promises to give us a robust work platform to carry us onward for the next 25 years. We can only hope that the new E94 is as reliable and capable as what it'll replace.


  3. The helicopter was on the ground before she was removed from the car. Actually both happened almost simultaneously. Actually the bird was on the ground before the ambulance arrived at the LZ with the second pt. on the 2nd flight.


  4. I wasn't at the call in Croton so I cannot draw any conclusions. If you weren't there you really don't know all of the considerations that went into the decision. We don't know the reasons for the decision to wait.

    Generally speaking from that area it seems it would make sense to go by ground. But that's a generalization. It won't fit in every circumstance.


  5. Understand that from the IC's perspective, we're not there to question the medics call for Stat flight. The medic is in charge of patient assessment, care and transport and the IC's responsibility is to marshall the appropriate resourses to facilitate that request.


  6. Why did Briarcliff need mutual aid on their MVA ?                 No manpower??

    I operate under the old adage: "When in doubt, call 'em out. 'Cause you can always send 'em back."

    Looking at the nature of the MVA and the challanges faced by the EMS and extrication teams I thought it would be best to have redundant resources on scene. Hence the mutual aid. Truth be told I could have handled with the initial assignment. On that assignment I had E94 w/ 4, R37 w/ 5, E92 w/5, 53B2 w/ 3 (2 EMT's) and 2 extra ff's. Then I got an additional 4 members on E93. I would say that 20 is decent manpower. Wouldn't you?

    Thanks for asking so I have the opportunity to brag about the BMFD a bit...

    As for Millwood, we work well with them on the Taconic and other dual response operations. They're a very tight, well trained group.

    Briarcliff and Millwood offer a very high level of professionalism on both fire and EMS calls.

  10. Take a ride over to the Palisades Parkway Alpine Rest Area. It overlooks Westchester and you get a great overview of all the displays in the county. Pretty interesting to see just how many fireworks are set off.

    The downside is that you're not close enough to any display to really get a kick out of the bangs. However, one year I caught the Yonkers show from the park across the river from the ferry pier. Talk about "in your face!" The shell were going off almost at eye level. Very cool way to see the show.


  11. After your meal stop by the firehouse and sneak a peak at TL40.

    Orfino's has a decent lunch also. Check the specials. Paese, just down the street has a good kitchen. Anthony has a pretty creative menu.

    Where is this Japanese place near the old A&P? Are you thinking Kiku? They're right next to Amalfi's in the center of

    town.

    The best B&W's I've had, to date, were from Mother's Bakery on 233rd St. in Riverdale off Johnson Ave. The place has been there for a million years and hasn't changed.

    But we'll see tomorrow if Homestyle beats them.

    My mouth is waterin' already.


  13. Artuso's in RoseHill Shopping Ctr. Columbus Ave., Thornwood is a transplant from Mt. Vernon on "the circle". Artuso was an icon and still does it the way I remember as a kid. Also this time of year they do THE BEST Italian ice!

  14. I recently ate at Jimmy Lee's in N. White Plains. Nice athmosphere, clean, decent service, and great barbeque. I had pulled pork and brisket combo with slaw and dirty rice sides. Didn't see hush puppys on the menu. Ribs looked good too! Had a small problem with the timely delivery of a meal and the manager did the right thing and took it off the tab. I'll be back there real soon...
