  1. 1) If you're gonna go to (name an event), make sure that your area is covered. Period. Every organization I've ever been affiliated with has done this, up to and including paid agency coverage.

    2) While I'm not a parade enthusiast, I'm not in favor of doing away with them.. Rituals serve important functions in groups and communities. However, rituals can and should change in response to external needs and pressures. Why drive to extinction when the beast can evolve?

    3) This is not a topic for much more debate. It's Seth's board. He pays the bills, so we can respect his guidelines. Actually, he really hasn't placed very strict guidelines on posting, as evidenced by some of the posts in this thread alone. we all get nasty, stupid, silly, and flat out moronic at times. Relax, it's someone's OPINION, and we all know about those.

  2. I've been asked to do a presentation for a local high school on making choices regarding drugs, alcohol, driving impaired....the usual scare 'em straight kinda thing. I'm asking anyone who has digital pics of PIAAs, fatality accidents, or the general consequences of the above who'd be willing to let me use them for this presentation to email them to me. If they are royalty free, that would be ideal; I will credit all submissions to their owners, and I will not redistribute the presentation unless you give me permission in writing to do so. You can email me at: mongomedic@optonline.net or PM through the board.

    Thanks!!!

  5. Fine, sit there in your ivory dispatch tower and pee on us lowly field providers...arrogant monkey. When the revolution comes, your kind will be the first ones up against the wall.....whoops, sorry, the nurse is coming with my medication. Gotta go.

  6. Pots354:

In twenty years of service, I have lost friends, colleagues and been notified of the deaths of utter strangers, all in EMS, stemming from many causes. These people have been shot, stabbed, died from AIDS/Hepatitis contracted from an OTJ exposure, died in MVAs, had buildings fall on them, died from respiratory ailments contracted from breathing in deadly fumes and particles, killed themselves due to depression, or otherwise faded away because of what we do.

Don't you DARE disgrace their memory, of the friends I've lost, of those LODD funerals I've gone to, of the notices that have gone out and STILL choke me up in front of my monitor when I read them. You want to be a stupid, ignorant little piece of insignificant material in your little corner of the sandbox, feel free. But don't trivialize our loss.

Do us all a favor. Keep your half-a$$ed opinions where they belong. Rattling around in your empty little pointy head.

  7. From Billy's post: "I got a laugh from The Journal News article on this incident in Sunday's paper. The headline was "budding graffiti artist" killed. They made it sound like he was the next Picasso! What ashame!!"

So, could we say this one got nipped in the bud?

  8. My New Year's Resolutions: Cleaning up some bad habits.

    1) Stop holding signals....well, maybe less often.

    2) Try this Plain English thing on the radio...like I was speaking in Croatian before....maybe get my unit number correct more too.

    3) Sedation BEFORE intubation...even if they pi$$ me off.

    4) Stop telling relatives we're "welding" Grandpa's chest....and I guess yelling "Clear....shock the monkey"....has gotta stop as well.

    5) Prophylactic IV's on whiners. Large ones. Now a no-no.

    6) Stop writing "Eat Me" with Betadine on the chest of unconcious drunks for the nurses to find when they undress 'em. Very tacky.

    7) Stop sucking on alcohol swabs between calls. Red eyes, unsteady gait.....it's gotta undermine the public's trust in me.

    8) Stop slamming patients with Lasix for that comical "transient deafness" thing, even though it's killer funny.

    9) Paint thinner in the bosses's Tucks.....No mas.

And #10) Walking into frequent flyer's houses, squinting at them, and asking, "Weren't you dead the last time I came here?".

  9. NYCOMCO used to handle all of OVAC's radio needs, when we used to have all GE radios. Then, when they went Moto we went with MetroCom, back when Mike Lester and his guys ran the north branch. Then, they knew radios and the customer service was excellent. However, it seems that MetroCom has been taken over by Stefan and his extended family, and no one has anything good to say about them. the front office is horrible, with the staff having nasty, unhelpful attitudes, and if you have a complaint, they treat you as if you just shat yourself in their presence. Ask Somers about the cheapo thrown-together lowband base Metro sold them (and that they forced them to take back!), or any of the other horror stories about having MetroCom install mobiles in their new engines.
