  5. Commercial alarm, backed out due to noxious fumes. HM-1 on location investigating potential water from sprinkler system mixing with chemicals, however nothing was found, so I am told...
  6. It's all about the spec, as a sales rep informed us at a recent meeting. If your specs state even the smallest details, like "when wheels are turned to their turning capacity, they shall not be hindered by any other components of the apparatus," then this should be adhered too. If you do not spec out every single detail, you leave yourself open for imperfections. Sadly, the way the industry, actually, every industry operates isn't as good as it should be. KME can build a good rig (Mohegan, West Harrison, etc.) or bad (Fairview, etc.) just like Seagrave can. Personally, if I want a rig built to my desire, I will make sure all possible items myself and the commitee can come up with will be in the specs. And on another note, Somers tends to buy and design apparatus that they don't like, wait until they have them, then point the fingers at someone else. I don't blame res20cue, because I know he knows his stuff, plus he is in one of those "jams" - where he has to deal with commissioners who should let the Chiefs do their jobs!

  8. Know what the problem is? Most Volunteer Assosciations waste time fighting for stupid causes, for example the blue light law. Many people out there are members of these organizations but only on paper. If we really cared about the issues in our service, we should be attending meetings and speaking our minds! We also spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME bickering with the Career Departments in Westchester. Focus our resources and energy on improving ourselves, like mandating training standards! Every firefighter should have the same minimum training statewide. Furthermore, FAST personnel should be trained universally as well. We all hear the comments "The paid guys are trying to eliminate us," but the truth is, we aren't helping ourselves! Take the time to better yourself, and you officers out there - motivate your people and set a good example!!!
  9. My precautions are as follows: 1. Avoid the Flu! 2. Don't over eat! 3. Get someone to drive me home. 4. Wake up in the next day no earlier then 1pm. To all of you out there - Happy New Year, and F*ck the Taliban!!
  10. I thought the one development in New Rochelle was the tallest, 30 something stories..........
  11. First of all, the Millwood FD is a group of good guys, and this is very shocking to me. I can't understand what the reason is to take someone's land to build your firehouse, especially with other land available in the area. This is not a good way to go about doing this, and I hope they come to their senses soon, or the public is going to view them as a bunch of power-hungry bafoons.

  13. A simple solution to this is Education! Each FAST unit should be reaching out to their neighboring agencies and advising them of their capabilities. Furthermore, As a responding Chief or Commanding Officer, upon receiving an alarm that may be creditable, have your dispatcher activate a FAST, even if it is to have them stage in their own quarters or yours. Time is of the essence.
