In Continental Village we have an intersection of Sprout Brook Road with a cross street of Old Albany Post Road at two different locations, at two different ends of our district. We have one in the northern part of our district in Putnam County and one in the southern Part Of our district in Westchester County where Highland avenue comes out of Peekskill and turns into Old Albany Post road for a stratch both of which intersect Sprout Brook road. We have had numerous instances over the years where we were simply dispatched a call on Sprout Brook Road in the area of Old Albany Post Road and we went to the wrong location because no numeric was given. One of which was a Rollover requiring extrication. It has become less of a problem now that we are dispatched for Westchester Calls by 60 Control and Putnam Calls by Putnam 911. We now know which way to start heading based on the County that dispatched us but there is still the potential for a cell call to bounce of the wrong tower and we are heaing in the wrong direction.

Sad to say that I have been involved with at least 5 incidents that resulted in some of those crosses. Bottom line is many of these accidents involve human error whether it be distracted driving, alcohol or drowsiness. To be honest I don't see much of a change in the volume of calls, just with multimedia being the way it is a broader audience is hearing of it. Always seems like an odd rotation to me. You'll get clusters of them on that section of Rte. 9. Then you get clusters on Bear Mtn. Bridge Rd. then you'll get them on the Roa Hook Rd. section from Camp smith to where 9 splits before rejoining around Jack Rd. It is what it is.
I agree, the accidents associated with those crosses date back to the 90s. We get far more on the Bridge road, its just that with the drivers driving faster on 9 the crashes end up more serious.

The call came in around 4:15, we were waiting around for the flatbed to show up, so we set up the stabilization struts because we had a few newer guys that never deployed them before .

On Thursday May 13th Continental Village Fire Department and Peekskill VAC were dispatched for a PIAA tractor trailer rollover at Annsville Circle. The driver was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital Center by Peekskill VAC, and the Fire Units remained on scene until the Truck was removed and the debris was cleared form the roadway.

On Sunday May 2nd Continental Village Fire Department, and Peekskill Vac were dispatched to Highland drive for a PIAA, vehicle off the road in the water. Upon arrival units found the driver out of the water and unharmed. His vehicle however was completely submerged and had floated out into the middle of the pond. Units used our small marine unit to take the tow truck operator out to the vehicle and attach the tow cable to it. Units also put absorbent booms out to prevent any fluids from leaving the pond. Units remained on scene for approximately 2 hours until the car was completely removed from the water

Scenario: Firefighter Joe is an interior firefighter at ABC volunteer fire dept. The neighboring fire department DEF is having manpower issues and asked Joe if he would consider responding for them automatically during his free time. Department DEF supplied Joe with gear and a pager to respond.
My question is, are there any laws allowing Joe to respond or any law preventing Joe from responding?

Putnam Valley FD and Vac Were dispatched for a MVA rollover with people still in the vehicle. Next thing i heard Putnam 911 was telling units to stage away and were trying to get a discription from unit on scene and advising them to leave the scene.

Continental Village Fire Department and Peekskill VAC were dispatched to the Bear Mountain Bridge Road for a PIAA rollover with possible entrapment. Upon arrival it was discovered that the car had gone off the side of the embankment and rolled over. The driver had left the scene before the first unit had arrived

Photos from todays garage fire on Old Albany Post Road. The fire was started as a result of a lightning stike from a severe thunderstorm. Tankers were called in from Putnam Valley and Garrison. A source pumper was called from Putnam Valley as well and Mohegan was called for an engine and manpower. There was heavy fire damage to the second floor and only water and smoke damage to the ground floor.

Chief what are the specs of the Kawasaki, looks like a great resource, thanks for sharing.4-wheel drive
Four-stroke, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder, overhead valve diesel engine
1600 lbs Load capacity
What we carry on it
Low band mobile radio
Ultra high mobile radio
75 gallons of water in tank
Stokes basket
8.25 HP trash pump with adapter to feed fire hose
1 length of flex suction with strainer
200 ft of forestry Hose
At One point we were feeding about 4-5 hundred feet with decent pressure up hill and you can also see us filling Garrisons engine. He was pushing out as we were feeding him and he never ran out of water. I would recommend one of these set-ups for anyone who has a lot of woodland that is not easily assessable by road. All you need Is a pond or stream and you can draft all day.

The driver was transported by Peekskill VAC to Hudson Valley. I think she only had minor injuries if any which is surprising because there was no air bag deployment.

I would like to say I have taken crap pictures with a great and expensive lens and I have taken great pictures with a cheap lens. In my opinion while the lens is important to a certain degree, I think angle, lighting, background, and the subject are more important. As well as knowing how to properly use your camera and its settings to the best of its ability. I took this photo for my depts. website with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II which sells for $99.95 on Amazon.com. I did however run it through Adobe Lightroom and would recommend you use either that program of Adobe Photoshop for picture touch up. I rarely take just apparatus photos but the 50mm seemed to work well when I did. However if you find yourself taking Fire pics an adjustable range lens is a must. Hope this helped
