  1. Taken from wiki:

    High-intensity discharge lamps

A high-intensity discharge (HID) lamp is a type of electrical lamp which produces light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube. This tube is filled with both gas and metal salts. The gas facilitates the arc's initial strike. Once the arc is started, it heats and evaporates the metal salts forming a plasma, which greatly increases the intensity of light produced by the arc and reduces its power consumption. High-intensity discharge lamps are a type of arc lamp.

Compared with fluorescent and incandescent lamps, HID lamps have higher luminous efficacy since a greater proportion of their radiation is in visible light as opposed to heat. Their overall luminous efficacy is also much higher: they give a greater amount of light output per watt of electricity input.

Hid bulbs are basically just like a welding arc when you get down right down to it. The different colors of the headlights you see are the different temperatures at which the gas burns. As for wigwags it would shorten the life of the bulb considerably as every time you turn them on and off you are striking an arc and from what i have seen in the aftermarket kits the manufacturers frown upon flashing the bulbs on and off (car alarms etc.).

  3. Probably E 40-10, That looks like a NICE engine... that cab appears that it has a forward facing rear seat arrangement.. I'll have to check it out when they take delivery.

Didn't happen to take a picture of the rear hosebed did you?

Ach- the tanker looks nice.. is the tower in service yet?

No pic of the back. Our tanker is due within 2 weeks. Give or take a few days. And the plan is the ladder going in service after the ladder inspection in July.

  4. Verona, possibly? Hearing conflicting reports if they're getting KME or Pierce, but they are due for a new aerial, to be wet down in October, in conjunction with their 100th Anniversary celebration.

Sounds like that might be it. I can picture the piece of masking tape with _______ new jersey written on it just cant recall the name.

  5. We have a total of 4 tankers. The last tanker we got was an 05. That truck will be rotated out to replace the tanker in station 2 which dont hold me to it but i think its a late 60's early 70s vintage. When woodstock buys a new piece it goes in to company 1 as we are the busiest station. We run all firematic calls in the district. In town only company one will go on initial dispatch. When the call is in one of the other stations ares it will be 1 and 2 ,or 1 and 3, 1 and 4.

  6. thanks for sharing, nice rigs, any idea what degree they had the airport rig on the tilt table?

30 degree angle on the table. It still pumped as they unloaded the tank through the deckgun while on the table. It had a full load of water and they had i think they said 2000 pounds of weight on the truck spread around in the compartments.

  7. The kme Airport rescue truck mentioned in the harrisburg thread. They had it on the scales and the tilt table while we were there. The truck on the table is at a 30 degree angle.

  9. How do you fill this tanker as in what size intakes are on it and does have any way of filling itself?

There are two 5 inch intakes on either side pump panel, a I want to say 2 1/2 auxilary suction on the pump panel and a 3 inch intake into the officers side rear. ANd it will get suction hose to pull a draft if need be.

  10. Sorry for the double post...

this is a pic from the night we brought it home. As you can see it still has the green wheels and the bent front bumper. On a side note.. Andy, not sure if you would remember but i used to be woodstock firefighter on the old code 3 board.

  11. Point Lookout-Lido's rig was a single-axle Aerialscope.

Did L-C paint the rims on this rig, or did Woodstock? They used to be the same color as the rest of the truck. Looks good, anyway.....glad to see it getting a few more good years of use, instead of rotting away somewhere, or getting scrapped. Best of luck with it!

We painted the wheels. The green paint that was on em was hurting. We tried white first and it looked terrible so we went with the black. We have chrome lug and hub covers on the way. We would really like to paint it red but it just isnt worth it. The green is in good condition on it and the estimates to paint it were in the area of what we paid for the truck to begin with. Rich any time you want to take some shots or visit the station just shoot me a pm and we can meet up. Same goes for any one that will be in the woodstock area just let me know. Also I just want to send a big thank you out to wfd member John Greener. He is a former lcfd member and he was the man that got this deal rolling.

  12. Hey guys just wanted to share some shots of our newest piece of apparatus. We have never had a ladder so this is all going to be a big learning expirience. We hope to have it in service at some point this year(09) as it will take a lot of training. It is an 1983 85' Mack/LTI. Once we get it all waxed and the weather is decent ill get it outside for some better lit shots.
