  1. Rye Engine 192 currently a 1986 Sutphen is being replaced by a 2006 Seagrave. I think similar specs to Trumbull CT and Harrison Engine 10. I believe Delivery is for the fall of this year if not sooner.

There is talk about Ladder 26 being replaced but that is a discussion for later time as we have no further details other then still in the hands of city council.

I hope this answers everyone's questions about Rye's apparatus many of you have been asking lately

  2. Hey guys little info for you about the Ladders in Rye.

Rye ladder 26 has mostly been a spare ladder and a mutual aid ladder. The ladder part is 50 years old and it hard to even consider it as a spare anymore. The front cab is 20 years old. When Ladder 25 (2001 Seagrave) needs to be serviced TL24 Harrison has covered the city and we have done the same for Harrison when TL24 has to go out of service.

The department has proposed to replace Ladder 26 to the city and it is currently in the 2006 city budget. If this passes and Rye has a new ladder then Rye will start having 2 ladders going on runs. L26 would be staffed by volunteers.

No secret Port Chester now goes with Mamaroneck. In the past Rye L26 second home was Westchester Ave and Poningo St in PC.

    Hope this helped

  3. Cruisers in Mamaroneck. They do the car decals for many police departments in the area also for chiefs car. They do a great job. If they didn't police and fire departments in the tri-state area wouldn't use them

  4. jklam thank you. Listening to the county for the respose of who was called and because I am curious what it was like that day on the radio here in westchester. If i was home in NYS at the time I would have been home or at the firehouse and listening to the scanner or radios and eveything else. I was in college at this point and had only been in my dept for a year. i don't believe listening to 60 will be hard or open old wounds. I know the stories of my dept response that morning and how they got the ball rolling just surious to listen to it.

4 years ago and seems just like yesterday.

  5. City of Rye 11 calls from the storm. First call we recieved at York ave and Bradford ave. caller stated they saw flames from a house behind their house. they thought that house was hit by lighting but that was unfounded. No signs of any strike. what we did see was a outside yellow light and from a distance in the bad weather maybe caller thought it was flames. We had 1 call for wires down and a number of residential and commercial alarms. busy but nothing major.

  6. I was not at the scene last night i was out of town but i will give what I believe is the reason. Us active guys in Rye have been working hard on improving our department and response as all departments do. FAST teams are a must to a fire scene and in Rye we never called for one at our prior fire, as active members we voiced to the chiefs the need for it especially after a few of us went to FAST team training and learned a lot about how much things can go wrong at anytime. Now upper westchester we all know has a number of FAST teams. in lower westchester there are not many departments with FAST teams or enough members with training. I think but not sure according to the mutual aid list here in Rye Larchmont is listed as our FAST team. I believe that they have enough members to support such a team. So i guess when the chief asked for the team Larchmont is first on the list. I think PC has a team also as listed on the county list but I am not sure.

I will say even though i was not there like i said, thanks to you guys from HFD and VMFD. glad you guys had fun. HFD we owe you guys a few for this year we have had a busy year

  9. If you have seen the movie "We Were Soldiers" when they are training in the beginning of the movie, they pick up a fire fight in Vietnam on their radio. I think the soldiers even states because of the atmosphere thats why they were picking it up. Soldiers standing around stunned at what they are hearing. A bunch of boys training in the states, getting ready to go over and you hear that-little scary.

But it is amazing how radio waves can be bounced around the globe.

  10. Bravest was a show that aired after 9/11/01 Terror attacks on CBS channel 2 Sunday nights after the 11 PM news. It was basically ride alongs with Bravest around the country. Many episodes were right here in NY with the FDNY RESCUE 2 or 3? They would be in Washington DC, San Francisco as well if I am correct and maybe even Boston. It was on for, I want to say a year. Great show. They had cameras on the firefighters and would show you the conditions inside the fire. Experience the ride with the crew. Awsome show.
