  1. I think that was a pretty wise response. If they were asking the Chief's for a response to something members would have been notified in short order. Some things are not meant to be simply put over the air and there are plenty of chiefs out there that could learn from their requests to have them landline to use their often municipal or district funded cell phones to handle non emergent business instead of their radios.

I believe his question was takin outta context. All NYRangers wanted to know was what was going on, not what the reasoning behind the word "landline" is.

  2. I have to agree you must make things firefighter proof. If you are going into a fire I don't think you are gonna take the time to make sure you pull your straps a certain way. That's nonsense. Any which way you pull your straps they should not rip away from the facepiece. SCOTT should put a recall on these masks for our safety and fix the problem, not place the blame on the firefighter.

  3. The guys on st patty day arent driving around in rigs! Messing with gear that someones life is counting on! Unless you know and have seen?

I agree with you that they are messing with life safety equipment and thats wrong. Alright I'll give you that they are just marching around but what about incidents like in Boston when two firefighters that were recently killed in a fire were found to have drugs in their system...I'm not playing the paid vs. volly card I am just saying it happens on both sides and there are serious reprocutions on both sides.

  4. I know this may get erased and some of you are going to pull the volly vs. career crap but honestly this kind of stuff does not happen in a career departments. We would most likely be fired. There are no real repercussions for this stupidity in volly departments and there should be. Could these morons be kicked out? Would the tax payer like to see this? These are just my feelings if you dont like it oh well!

Not to knock you but this does happen in the paid departments. This comment is coming from a fellow career member. What happens on St. Patricks Day in the city. Are you not in uniform representing your fire department? Unfortunately this happens in both sides of the F.D. There are repercussions in the vol side of it too like getting kicked out to even being arrested. So don't go firing out comments before you do your research.

  5. The solution is easy....

Satellite Radio! I've had it for two years now and haven't looked back. Where else can you have a choice of some 20 rock stations, 5 country stations plus some 100 other stations to listen to when ever you want?

Satellite is the way to go never have to worry about things changing there.

  6. We could play "what if's" until we are blue in the face. For the fast team (Which was Rescue9), before they would have been in on the ventilation they would have been the the fast team maybe I wasn't clear in the last thread, but there was no need for the fast. If there was flames and heavy smoke and the building was not secure yes there should be a fast team plus many other agencies. The building was secure the smoke, where the patients were was light and the number of patients affected were small. And once again Chris you are going by the IA. The IA tells maybe half the story, not to knock the writer. So if your what if's came into play the working fire assignments would have been activated. Why would you ask a question if we should respond lights and sirens, it makes no sense. Maybe you did not get what i was saying. As for the staff they were helpful enough in moving the 12 patients into another clear wing with the help of firefighters and transcare. I am sure if transports were needed Transcare would asked for more help.

  7. There are some valid points brought up here about preplanning nursing homes. Every nursing home should have one in place and P.D., F.D., and E.M.S. should all be involved with it. I just wanna say though the incident that happened in Hawthorne was not as extreme as some of you are making it out to be, you can not assume things by reading the IA. There was only one fire in the building, a very small one, and it was extinguished by the powder system prior to F.D. finding it. The other problem was a burnt out motor in the penthouse, no fire. Rescue 9 was called for additional man power to ventilate the building. If there was a need for a fast team it would of been initiated by that crew. As for the patients in the home, the small number that were affected were moved to another wing by the staff, transcare and f.d. members, there was no need for 10 more ambulances to be at the seen this was not an M.C.I. no one was hurt, no lives were in danger. If there was a working fire the proper steps would have been taken. A working fire assignment would have been called.
