  1. Lol, sure, if you say so!
  2. As I have always said..... _______ = Job Security!!
  3. I would love to see a video of this whole interaction. Its amazing what a little exposure to YouTube can do to people these days. And, why am I not surprised that it was Joel Miller. He has been pompous and arrogant so long as I have known him to be in office. Oh, and I almost forgot to answer your question. No, they don't have any idea, as a generic statement. On rare occasions, I have dealt with some that do genuinely care, but they are few and far between, and usually their genuine care is outweighed by the political pressure to do what is "in the best interest of the general public" and not "what benefits Fire/PD/EMS" even though that ultimately IS in the best interests for the public well being. But that is the problem, the politicians do not see it in terms of benefiting the public down the lines. All most of them see is another expenditure on their annual budget.
  4. I just got off the phone with DOC22. He is currently in Putnam Hospital after a sudden onset of dizziness, lightheadedness, short of breath, and chest tightness. He was admitted yesterday, and is feeling better at the moment, but not back to 100% He hopes to be released in the next couple days.
  5. Haha, idk, I guess it depends on if I am at the CME or if I'm workin that day (they seem to have a knack for scheduling these darn CMEs while I am in teh ER all of the time).
  6. Definitely recommended. Jay is a great guy, and an intellectual well versed speaker. There will be free food, as advertised, and the course is free to boot. A win win situation here!!
  7. Whats an 8 track??
  8. Kinda reminds me of an incident a little over 2 years ago at Dutchess County Dispatch. http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=10930
  9. From the first posting: I fail to see what difference it makes. The article itself states "a volunteer firefighter". Regardless, sadly, a member in our profession of "protecting and saving life and property" felt it more necessary to cause destruction for self-glorification/gratification. You can "work" in the capacity as a volunteer, but then again, whether it be an editorial, or news article, news agencies have a way of misrepresenting things.
  10. Not a problem at all. Just glad some people are actually taking notice of the new policies, and trying to abide by them!
  11. Probably referring to the policy of posting unrelated personal problems. This story is permissible, as it directly relates to the duties of a FF. Read more on this policy through the link provided below: http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=26668
  12. From FF Joe Tarquinio, Arlington (Dutchess County) FD. http://www.vententersearch.com/?p=265 http://www.vententersearch.com/supplementa...rwellfridge.htm
  13. I never once denied it was a valid point, to which I replied "ok guys, we get the picture". For a gentleman asking about what was needed on an aerial, it seems to me, is what the original poster was asking. How many times/ways do you want a valid point, but off-tangent to be phrased/said??
  14. Great shots Bill, as always!! Now my question is, WTH was someone doing walking in the middle of Route 9 at such an hour as that??
  15. Ok guys, I think we get the idea about staffing and training, no need to press that issue.
  16. Well, start with the basics of a Truck Company. Search, Forcible Entry, Ventilation, and Overhaul. Search - Ropes/Tag Lines, Hand Tools, TIC, etc... Forcible Entry - Hydraulic Hand Tools (i.e. Rabbit Tool or Hydra-Ram) Couple sets of Irons, Sledgehammer(s)/Maul, etc... (Jaws if your department wants the ladder to carry) Ventilation - Power Saws, Hooks/Poles, Vent Fan, Ground and Roof Ladders (which are really standard on most if not all aerials) Overhaul - Hooks/Poles, TIC, Tarps, Plastic Sheeting and Shims to cover vent holes, windows, Face/Eye/Particualte Protection, etc... **Special Consideration for Overhaul** ***CO and/or Multi-Gas Meter*** Always a time no one thinks about gases, during overhaul!!!! A few other assorted items, such as H2O can, ABC and CO2 extinguishers, and any other assorted items you can think you might possibly need! If I think of more, I will post, but those I would say are the bare necessities.
  17. Oh ok, thanks. The only "99" I know of is a Code 99 here at Saints, and didn't think there was any relation.
  18. I was wondering the same thing with the "99" comment. Just beat me to asking!
  19. I guess you can't be good at everything!!
  20. Thanks for posting those memoirs j2106. Please feel free to share more. I love the local/regional historical value, which seemingly gets lost to the interests of "progress", but its really the memories and stories which are valued the most!!
  21. I always enjoy reading his postings, they are well informed, and he says things in a legible, well spelled and grammatically correct manner.
  22. Well said, couldn't agree more!! You are arguing semantics about the saw!! I am glad you agree though, about the lack of proper PPE, which I think goes back to ALSFirefighter's Signature. How can you expect some to follow an example you do not set yourself?!?!?!
  23. Ensuring that nothing impedes the latching mechanisms of doors. I "found" the following on ScanCT today. Happens to be an "unnamed" member of this board who felt the desire to "customize" their engine. Apparently, an item was blocking the latching mechanism, and upon leaving the bay, the door swung open while the apparatus was in motion. What's missing?? Ohhh, the door!! 24. Heyyy, didn't know you were on here Bobby!! Well, theres one possibility weeded out, lol.
