  1. Smokedog this is not the section to post a question like this. There is an employment section for questions like this.

And you will probably be waiting a little while.....

  2. Did he only backburn what was on his land or did he just do a burn on the land near his property?

If he burned other people land thats an issue but if it was only on his land then what prevents him from doing so and why would he get arrested for doing so.

My thoughts exactly....if it was on his property then to hell with the state. They didn't even want to try and save his ridge then why not try yourself.

  3. This is right along the lines of people trying to take "under god" out of the pledge. I was at a local High School Graduation the other day and the girl they picked to say the pledge (the school VP) purposely skipped those words and kept going like they weren't supposed to be there. It was done on purpose she was not nervous or anything so don't defend her. The crowd loudly booed her...which itself was refreshing to hear.

Our nation's Pledge and Anthem our symbols of our country and should not be messed with!!

  4. Since this test covers 2 jobs that someone in the County thinks are the same, but aren't nearly, I will chime in. I worked at the County Police for 1 year and then left for Yonkers. These 2 positions are apples and oranges and one is definitely better than the other. I believe someone on this site actually did both...

60 control has a better schedule, less work load regularly, better benefits (meaning extras) and everyone in the room is on the same playing field other than the civilian supervisor who is just that, a civilian supervisor.

County Police follows a rotating chart in which you work a set of days, evenings, and then nights or vice versa unless that has changed. Even if you are EMD qualified/certified you can only get the "bonus" if you work at the DES (60 control) which is plain ridiculous if they are truely the same job. There is more forcible overtime at the County Police which means if you have plans in the summer, you may not get to act on them. Don't get me wrong here, the people at the County Police were great to work with, even the cops and police supervisors, but it is not an even playing field mixing the civilians and cops. Also, the work load daily between dispatching and nyspin duties as well as people calling in and off shift at outlying posts is heavy.

However, if I had had a choice, I still would have chosen the Police over 60 because that is more what I was interested in at the time. Now, I might want a break...and technically I have only been doing this for 4 1/2 years.

And once again, good luck to the union members here, I hope you guys do get a fair contract from the county sometime soon!

You are not kidding man...the WCPD dispatchers get the raw end of the deal. They really need to get out of CSEA and go somewhere else. The don't even have a rep on the bargaining committee. The people negotiating their salary don't know their job nor do they care about the hours or stuff they deal with. Not to mention they have to report to a different "boss" everyday which is a real pain the rear.

  5. Many of the comments I have read on this thread from those who don't get it and still want to respond lights and sirens to every call, are very similar to those that have been heard in community after community over the last 30 or so years when it was proposed to remove False Alarm Boxes from street corners. In every community, a close examination of alarms from street boxes for multi year periods, showed that there NEVER was a working fire reported via a Street Alarm Box that wasn't also reported via landline phone and or cell phone.

    Ummm...You are wrong.

    LOL...sorry for going off topic.

  6. Gee I thought that even with lights and sirens on we still yeild at red lights???

Oh and they said "The firefighters, who suffered minor injuries, were responding to a call, which turned out to be a pot burning on a stove." So my guess would be it was a reported stove fire. Stove fires don't get a priority response??

  7. For a bit of trivia: Bristol, Rhode Island, sponsors the oldest, continuously running 4th of July parade in the United States.

Their first celebration was established in 1785, and this year's will be their 223rd consecutive event!!!

Funny you mention that...I was in RI the other day and think I saw a sign for it! That is a heck of a long time....
