  1. i would say it is worth it even being so that it was unoccupied. what if the rig was to suddenly, due to multiple possible factors, tip when someone was around. may as well make it as safe as possible as long as members/people are around the scene. also why not stabilize to ensure it does not tip to prevent further damage. that rig will be put back in service after the dent is popped out granted there is no unseen severe damage. just my 2 cents. i'm sure there is more to it that we do not know.

  8. given my experience of just over 1 year in the FD now, i can't say that i have the knowledge that others will share but i'll add my $.02. once i got my clearance to go interior, i usually have the TIC with me, just how it has happened it seems. thus i will usually take a peek at the screen to check out the structure. i feel that it is necessary to look at it, but i know a billion other things are happening at the same time. i think it would be good to look first, but from what i hear and have been told, using caution while moving about will do you the best. i know my departments will pair up teams of experienced and somewhat experienced to enter a structure. never somewhat experienced with non experienced and so on...i'm sure others will have much better input...

  9. around my neck of the woods, all the "senior residence" housing have either Knox Boxes or a keypad to which we are equipped with the code to enter. now, should the call be at a residence usually i will ensure that A-i am at the correct residence. B-nature of call i am responding to justifying breaching. and C-who else is en route. from experience i can tell you that i have done both, waited for PD to force, and force a door myself. the PD forcing is pretty self explainable. the call i was on when i forced was a lifeline activation with no response from the caller but agonal respirations were heard by lifeline. i got o/s, ensured i was at the right location, asked for an ETA on police (too long) said ef it, kicked the back door in. entered cautiosly with partners to find my patient, confirmed code. i may not have been correct in my conduct, i am not saying this is what should be done. but at the time i was much younger and found it to be acceptable and practical and had my partner's agreement to force the door myself.
