  1. Millwood, with the support of Chappaqua, Sleepy Hollow, Archville, Pocantico Hills and others made a similar delivery over the weekend.

    MFC Supply Drive

I happened to speak with a buddy up there who mentioned it. I am not aware at this time of how they worked in conjunction with the departments in need to determine which items would be shipped and how the plan was executed.

The Chief from Pocantico Hills has a home in the area and was in contact with the local FD's in the area.

  2. Mp134 why did your group choose to support the tractor cab like that with 2 sets of lift struts as opposed to the way my group did it with just one set of lift struts in the front ? Also did you guys chain the front wheels it doesn't appear that you did.

    Texastom

The second set of struts acted as a safety. As the front was lifted, the set in the middle of the truck was adjusted to the new height. If the front struts need to be moved, the second set keeps the truck up. As for the wheels, they were chained. You can see the chain coming down by the car's door.

  4. There have been times where I've used the TIC in a bathroom and will get a reverse reading. If the bathroom has tile walls, the only thing you will see is a reflection of yourself, the tile acts like a mirror.

And like it was stated in the above replies, search with your hands and tools. Check the tub/shower, open the shower door. Just because the bathroom looks small and nothing is showing on the TIC, go inside and feel around. If it is small, it's not going to take long. Better to know that you checked everything instead of having a doubt in the back of your mind.

  5. Riverside Hose in Tarrytown sells them. I believe weekdays 5-9PM, weekends 10Am-10PM. This is the second year. Proceeds go towards the rebuild of their 1941 Seagrave. HOWEVER, as of this morning they have only 9 left.

  6. First off... let's wait and see the outcome of this trial before making judgements.

    Innocent until proven guilty!

Secondly... what are we learning from this incident. It's not enough to say "thank god, it's not me"...or..."thank god, it's not my department."

    1) Do all your dept. members know OSHA guidelines in handling the stuff at the firehouse, or do we just take safety precautions out in the field.

    2) If anything likes this happens, i.e. member arrested, what is the plan. Do we just put our hands in our pockets and wait for Village officials to handle the mess or do we take a proactive approach.

    3) After such an incident, what do you to gain the the trust of the community?..the Village officials?...and how do you fix Media image?

And finally...Over the past months, it is my opinion, local news sources have shown a blatant disrespect to the volunteer services. If it is a positive story, it will mention So and So FD, disregarding the fact that the dept. is volunteer. However if the story is negative, the word volunteer is constantly brought up. Volunteer Depts. need to start to work with these people or we will always be known for only the negative incidents.

  7. In terms of a traditional firehouse, Sleepy Hollow's Station 2 would be at the top of the list. It is home to Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 - "The First at the Worst" - Engine 85. Still has a brass fire pole, ticker tape alarm system, original 1927 alarm board, tin ceiling in the apparatus floor and the original 4 panel side-opening doors. The second floor has been named "The Temple" and is packed with memorabilia all the way from the company's inception in 1887. :)
