  2. purple, red, blue, they're all the same right? (detect some sarcasm there?)

That may be very well why the public is lacking information, however coupled with a siren, it should be a clear get the hell out of the way notice.

This guy appearently had the ok as a sherriff to have these lights - although from my recollection of my time in new york, sherriffs aren't full fledge law enforcement anyways. But he had the right to have them at that point in time - however he resigned, hence it should have been bye-bye red lights. but that would be the logical approach to things. from the article, it sounds like this guy has a bit of an ego thing going on. Like it's owed to him. If he keeps doing it, (my bet is he keeps it down for awhile till the water cools then starts again) hopefully he'll catch the wrong cop and get prosecuted. As for the Mayor thing from 97 I think it was. Funny thing, here in CT the Mayor, although not a cop or firefighter, is issued a car from the city, usually a CV with a police package, with both radios for PD and FD and Red lights. Just because he's head of the city. The current Mayor of my town has an explorer like that. I have never seen them on at a scene or otherwise. And I'm pretty sure he'd get shrugged off o/s anyways. ONe of the past Mayors, went to a scene, no rls or anything, and tried to start telling both fire and pd what he thought should go on - he was politely told to step off by both.-lol

  3. Rockland legislator not allowed to have red lights in his car

    By Sarah Netter

    The Journal News • May 27, 2008

A county legislator who is driving around with red lights in his car said it's perfectly fine for him to have them.

But state vehicle and traffic law prohibits anything but fixed white lights, such as headlights, except for authorized emergency vehicles.

Legislator Jacques Michel, D-Spring Valley, has two red lights in his Lincoln, which has county Legislature plates. One of the rotating red lights sits in the rear window and one is affixed to his dashboard in the front.

"I've had those for years," Michel said.

The legislator had been a deputy sheriff for several years and was permitted to have the lights in that capacity, Rockland County Sheriff James Kralik said.

But Michel resigned from that post after he was elected to the Legislature in November.

Kralik said that police could technically pull Michel over because of the lights, but "I don't believe police spend a lot of time looking for them."

Michel said he only turns the lights on when he's working as a minister.

"Nobody can tell you they ever see me with emergency lights on ... except when I'm leading a funeral or something like that," he said.

Michel said he officiates at funerals "most every weekend."

"I don't see what's the big deal," he said.

But the state law says nothing about allowing ministers to use emergency-type lights, including lights that oscillate, rotate or flash.

Included in the law's definition of emergency vehicle are ambulances, police vehicles, firetrucks, hazardous material vehicles and blood-delivery vehicles.

Nick Cantiello, a spokesman for the state Department of Motor Vehicles, said there were no provisions for use of such lights by a clergy member.

"I would say he is not allowed to have these, to use these lights," he said.

Detective Lt. William Barbera confirmed that the vehicle and traffic law doesn't allow red or other emergency-type lights to be used by a civilian in such instances.

Some residents yesterday said Michel, as a civilian, should have to follow the same rules as everyone else.

"I think it's shameful. It's ridiculous," Bill McGuire of Stony Point said of Michel's lights. "There's no need for him to go to a funeral with his lights on."

    Denise Zinna of Congers agreed.

"I think he should follow the laws like everybody else," she said. "If he shouldn't be using them, he shouldn't be using them, no matter what his excuse is."

Keith Taylor, owner of Hannemann Funeral Home in Nyack, said no one in his business uses flashing lights to lead a funeral procession.

  6. silly boy didnt you know dirty water just doesnt do the job-lol. betcha if her house catches fire after she calls 911 ms. mitchell is gonna be busting this guys door down trying to get him to help. it's easy to say you'd say screw you, but we all know the guy would wind up trying to help her. i'm wondering if someones house does go up and winds up being a foundation save if someones gonna try to blame this poor guy. But then again as he is not a firefighter, he has no duty to act. but we all know lawyers.

  7. Last night both crews from New Haven Fire as well as AMR responded to a call for a victim of a GSW on Popular Street in the city. crews arrived and the patient was a code 200 - traumatic arrest. The crews worked the patient all the way to the ER. 2 min out the pt was still a code and the medic did a chest decompression. needless to say the guy is now in very critical condition but at least alive. Nice job by both the crews. Good Job

  9. I was working a daylight surveillance with my FBI/NYPD Special Operations squad when word came over the radio of a plane hitting one of the towers...........

As we raced down the West Side Drive, we all knew that the new war on terrorism had begun...

Was that before or after the mustang got t-boned? We all know where me, Nadine, Donnelly and Brett were.

  10. IF you want to be really technical, the V&T law applies mostly to vehicles in motion on the road. If I was in a flaming mood and wanted to put a purple strobe light on my vehicle, on private property, i could. Second I start tooling around on any public road, it becomes a violation. I don't see why the V&T law would prevent use of a green light on a stationary command post at an ICS scene. And even if it did, find one police officer that would write the IC a summons for it.

LOL not sure about NYS but in CT believe it or not purple is used for funeral homes(LOL!). Not good for EMS 8)

  11. Unfortunately the new Medicare rates not only put a strain on EMS providers, but I'm sure it also has an impact on hospitals too. While paid services and hospitals, shouldn't be making a killing, has anyone ever looked at what services can get paid? It's ridiculous. I wouldn't be suprised to see more hospitals closing shop. And ya know what? It really stinks that medicare and medicaid have to nickle and dime everyone to death.
