  1. What is going on in Dutchess County. Wanting to eliminate Sheriff,s patrols as well other departments manpower status.

Now they are eliminating the FID team that has the training and experience needed to make the correct evaluations

to assist the Fire Depts in the county.

Get away from the political bull and act in the proper way to support the taxpayers that voted you all in.

  2. I doubt it would happen much either. However, with the fire volume being somewhat low in both Orange and Dutchess counties, I would think it would not be a bad idea to cover both counties and get double the experience. I know up her In St. Lawrence County we use M/A C&O teams on occasion when there are several working fires going on at once or the SLC C&O team is unavailable. I do see why investigators might want compensation for covering other counties, perhaps something will be worked out...Just an idea.

Either way, hopefully in future years, the Dutchess County FID will be added back into the budget. The FID provides valuable manpower and resources. IT is a shame that the FID of all things was chosen to be cut.

  3. A fair enough response, and I think its a great asset in the area.

I think the DC was trying to figure out what qualifications are required, who deems them a certifiable dive team, and, for that fact, what is the governing agency? I am assuming DC911 has them in the CAD, but as far as the OFPC goes, in their training catalog, on Page 7, under the header "NYS Firefighter Training Standards Certifications", it does list "Dive Rescue Technician", yet I don't know of any OFPC courses regarding diving. Another title listed under this same section is "Surface Water Rescue Technician".

Is there some other way that this is achieved, such as, in addition to going through a licensed dive school, do you also have to take all NYS OFPC water classes, such as Swift Water, Cold Water/Ice Rescue, and tie them together, and are then recognized by the OFPC as a "dive team"?

Not knocking on anyone here, I just know nothing about this, and am curious how this all falls in place.

New Hamburg Fire Dept for many years has had a cold water rescue team on stand by through Dutchess County 911

We have all the gear that is needed for surface and shallow water rescue.

Many hours of training are put in to maintain good rescue technics.

The Fire District also has a 25' aluminum fire rescue boat with two 200 h.p. engines that has been on the Hudson River since

2000 moored at Whites Marina in New Hamburg during the warm season.

You can go online at NHFD.org to review what is carried on this fine vessel.

  4. I hope everyone here under stands the orginal call for this was New Hamburg and Mobile Life. Then County dispatched New Hackensack and Town Of Wappingers for a second MVA in that area. Then it was determined it was a borderline call. The call was actually in New Hackensack Fire District. Hughsonville was covering due to mutiple New Hackensack Members Out Of Service. They needed four ambulance for four patients all ALS transport. Great Job by all from DC 911 down to the Probies on that scene.
