  1. I swear by Nikon. Just don't like the way Canon's are made. I use the Nikon D80. highly recommend it. Deciding on buying a D90 myself, or possibly a D300. The 18-200mm lens is really nice and also suggest getting that. The more you take lenses off your camera, the more dust you get on the CCD. The 18-200mm enables you to keep 1 lens on the camera a good majority of the time [except for low light photography].

  2. Just a reminder about the Expo this Saturday. Weather should be about 73 degrees and sunny. Don't have a list of all the rigs that will be there but we should have a really good attendance. The Technical Rescue Team will be doing a demo at 11am, Explorers Post # 44 will be doing a live burn at 12 noon, Hazmat Team doing a demo at 1pm & Hillcrest FD doing an extrication demo at 2pm.

  3. Thanks for posting the flyer Tim. As long as the weather holds out for us, the expo is shaping up to be a great event. Come take a tour of our 2 level fire museum. Watch live demonstrations by Rockland Fire Departments & Specialty Teams. Check out several antique apparatus as well as Rocklands newest deliveries. The Rockland County Sheriff's Department Arson Unit & Bomb Squad will also be on hand. You won't want to miss this event !

  4. My Department has at least 1 unit mounted on the trunk of 1 of our unmarked traffic cars. It sure came in handy just over a week ago. The Spring Valley PD had a domestic dispute/assault that took place in their jurisdiction. The male perp took his son and fled in his car, which the PD had the plate for. The male called the childs mother on the cell phone and threatened to jump off a bridge. The Spring Valley PD was tracking the perps cell phone and was giving units his possible location area over the radio. Our traffic Officer on the road manually entered the plate into his LPR and headed toward the area that the perp may have been in along our border. As he was heading down Middletown Road in Nanuet he got a hit on the vehicle and made a quick u-turn. He was positive the vehicle turned onto Smith Road and searched the entire length of road and side streets until he found him in the parking lot of a nursing home. When the perp spotted our unmarked police car he took off. Unfortunately a pursuit started and the perp crashed into 3 of our police cars before pulling into the parking lot of the Spring Valley Police Station to turn himself in. The child in the car was unharmed. If it weren't for the LPR, the vehicle may have not been located so quickly, if not at all.

  5. A few photos from this evenings fire in Hillcrest at 59 South Mountain Road. Long winding road with no hydrants. Multi Million Dollar homes all over the place up long driveways well off the roadway. Water shuttled from South Mountain Road & Little Tor Road to the scene. Mutual Aid from New City, Thiells, Spring Valley [F.A.S.T.] & Stony Point to the scene.

  7. Your right Chris, I don't know what the circumstances were surrounding the accident, I was just pointing it out because it was very ironic. In case people don't know the area, the drivers in Medic 25's area are horrible ! Not that they are much better countywide, but far worse in Monsey/Spring Valley. Not sure what kind of damaged it sustained, but it wasn't serious, that much I know.

  8. Half of the 26 Rockland County Departments & Mahwah and Ramsey, NJ were eventually called out to this fire last night in Suffern at 15 Washington Circle. The call came in at 2003 hours and was declared a working fire about a minute later as this building is a half a block down the street from the firehouse. It was a bitter cold night and the fire was fed by a ton of fuel with numerous explosions. The fire was fought all through the night and into the early morning hours. Suffern signed off just after 7AM after the building was demolished.
