  1. And I believe the law of ignorace fails to reflect on some of the need for some of the things mentioned above. First, a police car is visible and under more scrutiny. Sometimes, they speed because they're understaffed and need to get to the next call, or going to back up or go into the area of another offficer in case he needs assistance, yet can't respond Code 3. Using a cell phone sometimes to communicate with dispatch because the radio doesn't work, or making callback to the complainant.

And, I've never seen a cop who doesn't wear a seatbelt. I've seen way more EMT's and FF's not wear seatbelts.

    AMEN!

  2. This is what causes traffic jams, rubberneckers! Probably the oldest form of this "Voyeurism" sickness. Never ceases to amaze me how much traffic can get screwed up in the south bound lane when the accident is north bound on a four lane highway. Then 15 feet past the incident youre instantly back to 65mph. Goes back to my old theory, mind your business and worry about yourself and not rear ending the car in front of you! (unless someone needs help of course)

And that backhoe incident was on lohud probably before they cleared the scene!

  3. That was pretty awesome video. I would not have been that close to a suspect with a long gun...

It would appear that the officer with the long gun was the contact officer and the other was the cover officer, he appears to have approached after the suspect was down and the immediate threat was gone. Thats just my opinion from the video. Unless youre refering to the begining of the video, that was the perp next to the cab shooting, no an officer. Looked text book until everyone came running up to the drivers side and the officer was on the passenger side "covering" the suspect, would have been a hell of a crossfire situation should there been another threat in the car. Scary stuff, but definitly good job from what the video shows.

  4. A> Take any job you can get, dont "wait" for a better one or one that you want. Get your foot in the door, its much easier to move around.

B> If it specifically asks for "all summonses received" then that's what it wants, all the ones youve gotten regardless of the courts disposition.

Maybe you can post the exact question to clarify it.

  5. SOMERS - A Somers teenager apparently didn't like it when a trooper ticketed him for not wearing his seat belt correctly, so he gave the trooper the finger as he drove off, state police said today.

Trooper Philip Nimphius wasn't amused, so he stopped 18-year-old Richard M. Antonucci a second time and charged him with disorderly conduct, a violation, police said.

From Journal News: Somers teen charged

Bravo to the Trooper, more of these kids need to be arrested for this when it happens!

    And to avoid any speculations:

    § 240.20 Disorderly conduct.

A person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause

public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk

    thereof:

    1. He engages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening

    behavior; or

    2. He makes unreasonable noise; or

    3. In a public place, he uses abusive or obscene language,

or makes an obscene gesture; or

    4. Without lawful authority, he disturbs any lawful assembly or

    meeting of persons; or

    5. He obstructs vehicular or pedestrian traffic; or

    6. He congregates with other persons in a public place and refuses to

comply with a lawful order of the police to disperse; or

    7. He creates a hazardous or physically offensive condition by any act

    which serves no legitimate purpose.

    Disorderly conduct is a violation.

  6. What I do know is the the standard stopping distance for a 2 axel light truck including driver reaction is approx 215 ft. Average ambulance is significantly heavier and doesn't stop nearly as well and the impact with the car is going to slow you down faster. Figure 215' is accurate you're looking at about 15 to 18x the vehicle length.

What is the speed of the vehicle that brought you to those numbers?

  7. Without reading the law I'd say it can be enforced anywhere. Three minutes isn't hard to stand there and time, and it isn't long at all. So much for warming it up to defrost the windows. The snow/ice covered window tickets will also increase in this case. As far as the idling on private property, the exhaust travels to public areas and the atmosphere, so unless you have one of those giant tents over your property I'd say the government has a say so, not that I agree AT ALL with it. They're trying to outlaw leaf blowers too, next will be snow blowers then lawn mowers. Welcome to communist America, it's only just begun!!!!
