  2. Do I park legally, absolutely. Do I put money in the meter, no, Im not required to, do I leave it running, warm and cold yes I do, all the equipment in the car will drain the battery over time. That's not the point here. The point is that people cant park in a spot thats not too far from the fire lane, they park in the fire lane because they can and flaunt it, and in my experience its the EMS vehicles that abuse this. Send out those solicitations for donations and expect the person in a wheel chair that cant get on the sidewalk because youre parked in the fire lane in front of the ramp access to the sidewalk to send money!

  3. I disagree %100. A chief is a chief, always in service. A Fire happens and he probably would know about it, so the line through the window is a bit over the top.

Any emergency vehicle is just that. So when an emergency happens, an a cop, firefighter, emt, medic, get a job, you want to waste valuble time having that person going to his car. Not if its my emergency.

Waste time getting to their car?? Some regular parking spots are 30 feet from the fire lane, a light jog is 4mph therefore taking you 5.1136 seconds to cover 30 feet, step it up to 6.5 mph and it will take you 3.1469 seconds. Now let's say the lazy spot isn't open and you have to park 100 feet away, the light jog will take 17.045 seconds, and the run will take 10.49 seconds. And if you don't want to spill your coffee you can walk it at 3mph for a time of 22.727 seconds. I could go on but I'm sure you all get the point.

It will take you the same amount of time to get to your car as it did to read my reply! I hardly think that you legally parking an emergency vehicle will hinder your response time.

  4. Is someone from this area? Is there NO OTHER place for a fly car to be parked and the medic jump in the ambulance? I find it hard to believe there's no other alternative, a mall, 7-11, school etc. If the priest doesn't want you there then so be it, find an alternative. To want to jam it down his throat isn't very Christian. To say that he's obstructing EMS operations or whatever, Id say you would have to justify that there was no alternate site for this intercept to occur. I dont want to what if this to death, im just addressing the general concept, as the article has no details.

  5. Although the S.O. seemed out of line, the jurisdictional issue is mute:

NYS CPL 20.40 (4)[d]: "An offense committed on board a vessel navigating or lying in any

river, canal or lake flowing through or situated within this state, may

be prosecuted in any county bordering upon such body of water, or in

which it is located, or through which it passes; and if such offense was

committed upon a vessel operating as a common carrier, it may be

prosecuted in any county bordering upon any body of water upon which

such vessel navigated or passed during the particular trip."

NYS CPL 20.40 (4)[c]: An offense committed within five hundred yards of the boundary of

a particular county, and in an adjoining county of this state, may be

    prosecuted in either such county.

This section covers prosecution only, not jurisdiction. As long as it's in NYS he's a Police Officer, I wouldn't "test the waters" (no pun intended) and see if he has "power" in another county.

  6. As a weekly church goer, I would really not care if they said I couldn't use their facilities or not I'm going to use them.

It would be quite amusing watching a fly car get towed off the grounds. Then submitting the bill to get the car out of the tow lot. Sounds like this priest would get something towed, if not some criminal charges.

The article definitly leaves out details on why this occured.

  7. I had thought that if a crime is being commited, and LEO (off duty) had a duty to act. That the LEO would be covered by his dept. Maybe I was thinking while they had a gun and badge on them? The only reason I believe this to be true is due to the fact that off duty officers carrying weapons, if they had no duty to act then why would they have a weapon? can anyone clarify this?

Like I said, yes we are required to act. But "act" doesnt mean get in the middle of a gun fight with no gun and your badge hanging out. Acting could include calling 911, getting descriptions of perps etc. But going home is the top of any cops list.

  8. Maybe these people who hang out and don't respond should be reminded that they too (probably)have family living in their district, and how would they feel if one of them, or them personally, called for help and some schlep continued washing his car. I always say, treat every call as if it was your own family member or your house on fire etc.!

  9. As Governor of the State of Texas, Bush athorized the execution of 153 men, more than any other Governor of Texas in history.

Maybe he'll run for NY Gov when he's done being President. He can clean up some of the trash feeding off our economy and continuosly commiting crimes against innocent people.
