  1. Can I take this test next time around if I retire from the job ( non city ) ?
  2. Old cellar nozzles? ( insert sarcasm )
  3. Are you saying the Truck should carry a can with this statement or a booster tank and crosslay line?
  4. Where's the truck?
  5. I didn't realize that the FDNY could subpoena anything. When did they become a sitting Judge? What a bunch of TURDS!!!!
  6. This says it all about where we are going in this country today. An ethnic group sues and wins a court award for discrimination and only requsts the money for their ethnic group. The other ethnic group is rejected because of race!!! EmailFacebook957 Twitter14Google Let's just keep our heads buried in the sand America, all is well Payouts start flowing in FDNY discrimination suitBy Selim Algar May 1, 2014 | 8:46pm Members of the Vulcan Society of firefighters in front of the Brooklyn courthouse. Photo: Gregory P. Mango After a seven-year legal brawl, the first batch of checks from the FDNY discrimination case are finally rolling off the presses – and they aren’t even part of the $98 million settlement earmarked for lost back pay and benefits. The city is quietly cutting $2,501 checks to members of the Vulcan Society’s class action suit who sought separate emotional damage claims over the FDNY’s bigoted hiring practices, according to Brooklyn federal court papers. Those funds are on top of the whopping $98 million the city agreed to pay out to roughly 1,500 Hispanic and black victims to cover their financial losses. They sued the city in 2007 for using discriminatory entrance exams that lessened their chances of getting hired. “To be honest, I never thought anything was going to come of all this,” said Gardy Augustin, one of the first few class action members to be cut a check. “I don’t think what they did on those tests was right. I was a volunteer firefighter in Uniondale and I don’t think I was given a fair shot.” Augustin said he left New York after his FDNY rejection and resettled in Atlanta where he is looking for work. “That took a lot out of me,” he said. Curiously, the emotional damage funds are only available to black members of the class action and not Hispanics, court papers state. According to language on the Department of Justice’s Web site, Vulcan Society attorneys sought out the special provision for black class action members while no one bothered to do so for Hispanics. “As a result, compensatory damages are available only for black applicants,” the site reads. At least one Hispanic applicant for emotional damages was rejected last year because of his ethnic ineligibility, according to Brooklyn federal court papers. Roughly 200 of the class action’s 1,500 members sought out emotional damages, a source told The Post. With each expected to be offered roughly $2,501, the payments could add millions to the FDNY discrimination case’s ballooning price tag. A total of 19 people agreed to that amount this week and will be sent checks within the coming months, according to Brooklyn federal court papers. Those who reject the offer will be able to argue their case in front of a special panel who will review their claim. In order to receive emotional damage compensation, applicants must show concrete evidence that the quality of their lives have been compromised by the FDNY’s discrimination. The $98 million settlement amount also doesn’t include at least $3.7 million more the city will be on the hook for in fees to the plaintiffs’ lawyers.
  7. Or they can continue to spend money on studies until they get the one they are looking for.
  8. I, along with 25 of my Brothers spent 2 days paying our respect to Lt Walsh and FF Kennedy. I have to tell you that there needs to be a class on proper etiquette taught to the younger generation of firefighters. I can't tell you how many members I saw carrying cases of beer on their shoulders walking the streets where our Brother was being celebrated. Guys just walking by the church with 24 on their shoulder. I don't really know if they were career or volley and don't really care who they are affiliated with but their actions disgusted me as well as other New Rochelle Firefighters. If you want to have a few beers between the service and the last drive past the sea of blue please go to a bar. If you want to tailgate and party in front of the civilians like morons please go to a football or baseball game. In front of the church and on peoples lawns is not the place!!!!
  9. I know we have been down this road before and it just would not sit right if we don't bring it up again. When I respond to a call and I am advised by 60 Control to stage away till PD arrives I do just that. I can tell you that for every shooting, stabbing and assault call I respond to I ask if PD in en route. I also advise that we will stage away until clear to enter the scene. Do I want to help someone in distress? Yes I do. Do I want to be part of the action? Yes I do. Do I want to injure or kill one of my Brothers under my supervision and not return them home the same way they came to work. NO FRIGGIN WAY!!! Do we need to get on the radio to advise PD to stage away till our arrival? 2 Members of Public Safety are in critical condition for the simple fact that : #1 They are not dressed in proper fire gear #2 They are not wearing SCBA #3 They most likely do not have elevator keys and or don't know how to control an elevator in a fire situation #4 They are acting out of the scope of their job description Does wearing a uniform transform us into something we are not? We tell civilians to vacate and do not return for valuables or anything else for that matter. When does the risk vs reward decision come into play? Do we really need to do another agency's job? For everyone who gets his/her panties in a bunch over this post get over it! Hold a picture tight of your loved ones everyday and ask yourself one thing. Is this the smartest thing I am about to do? I will say a prayer for the 2 NYPD members and I hope for a speedy and healthy recovery
  10. I would think we all know what assume means so that's why I ask if PD is en route. My first job is to return the Brothers of my company home in the morning the same way they showed up at work. I never assume that every agency is aware of what's going on. I hope that 60 control is also on the same page with regard to me transmitting the 10-75 and not assuming we are going to work but knows that we are!!!! 10-75 the box 60 control Ladder-one three is going to work!!!!!!
  11. I don't know anyone dragging these officers trough the mud here. I don't remember saying that the officers aren't sworn to protect life and property. I am tired of cops thinking the FD is against them here and on the street. The public may dislike them but I certainly do not. The facts still remain that most officers are not trained to encounter a fire in any building. How does that turn into us bad mouthing the PD? It's a fact of life. So as usual it has taken the LODD for people to wake up and smell the coffee and realize there is a problem with the system. What a shame!! There are big differences to PD driving by a fire and stopping to render assistance while FD is notified or being dispatched and racing to the scene to dove right in. They will always beat us there. The same goes for FD driving by a crime in progress. And stopping to render assistance and waiting for PD to arrive. We just don't get dispatched though. So in conclusion if by starting this topic we have made our Brothers in Blue rethink entering an unknown fire condition we have done our job. To save LIFE. Stop thinking we hate you, that could not be further from the truth
  12. I thought the only difference in trucks were tower ladders and straight sticks. The fat lazy Truckies ride the TL to the roof and the real Truckies climb to the top!!!
  13. I just sent Mr Polet an email. Lets see if he responds. It would be nice if we could all send him a short but sweet email and load up his inbox. I will post any response he may have. Mr Polet I read in disbelief the totally clueless view you have of the fire service. Let me fill you in on a total misguidance in this country. The need for a college education taught by clueless people as yourself. As I prepare to send my first child to higher education in 3 years I often second guess any encouragement I may give. The colleges and universities charge outrageous prices to brainwash our youth into believing what clowns like you are teaching. This in turn will breed more clowns like you to brainwash more of our youth. More kids should be encouraged to join the trades and earn an honest living and forget about $200,000.00 worth of debt to sit in a classroom and be taught by someone with your "expertise". Get off your educational high horse Mr Polet. You and all your colleagues do not impress me. Mr Polet, I have been a career firefighter for 19 years now in an urban fire dept in NYS. I pray that you and your family never need the assistance of my Brothers in Holland. I will also pray Mr Polet that if in fact you do need assistance from my Brothers in Holland that they show the courage and professionalism we all have.
  14. Hats off to the Brothers from Yonkers and Pelham Manor for going above and beyond away from " home". Mount Vernon and the victim were fortunate to have you in town.
  15. To often Brother........to often

  18. Date:11/28/13 Time:03:15 Incident Type: Basement fire in a PD Location: 25 Beechtree dr District:E23,L13 Units:E23, E21, E22, E25, L13, TL11, 2302, 2301, 30A2 NRPD Description: Residential fire alarm E23 E21 L13 TL11 2302 dispatched to Automatic fire alarm. E23 L13 10/84 nothing showing. During size up E23 transmits the 10/75 for heavy smoke in the home through the windows L13 forcing entry and E 23 stretching in. E22 E25 added to the box E23 reports basement fire stretching down the stairs All hands working Just another routine residential fire alarm? I think not. Homeowner was not home at the time to meet first arriving companies and a total 360 performed by first due companies shows why there is no such call as routine. Nice stop by all NRFD units working Thanksgiving morning. This homeowner certainly has something to be thankful for this year!!
  19. Smitty, Tex, Fut, Stone and Marsico!!! Hendrie is to new to have been a mentor but has convinced me to stay on the job. AWE YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. You know it, I know it and believe me Brother the Vulcans know it. Things will never change until individuals take responsibility for the course of their lives and the groups mind their business.
  21. Vulcan Society president John Coombs questioned the FDNY’s commitment to helping minorities succeed. “Some of those instructors are out to break them,” Coombs said. “It’s psychological warfare.” He said physical demands, such as running a mile and a half in 12 minutes, are too strictly enforced and said probies who show steady improvement are still being weeded out. “We’ve never had so many injuries at the academy,” he said. “Are they overtraining the candidates?” And of course they have the answer to the problem. I mean really, did this guy just ask if the are being overtrained???
