  2. I'm sure a rape conviction would not require piss testing. The particular stipulations that result in regular piss testing are a result of drug or alcohol offense ie: paraphernalia, possession, DUI, DWAI, DWI, etc. Non-distribution and non-violent offenses are often able to be worked around.

I have been around people who have been convicted for DWI,drugs and for perjury. DOH did follow up on these people, but they all self reported to the DOH. I have read newspaper article on an EMT in the Albany that did time for manslaughter. Would I like a thief or stoner for a partner? Hard question to answer.

  3. excuse the two cents but it could be something from a movie or tv show. I am sure there is a logical and reasonable reason why this happened and it will show what an accident it is. Sounds like a one in a million chances/odds to me.

Another urban legend is born. There could have been gas or oil exposed clothing not yet removed. The DOH should tell the tail.

  4. Only a minor point, but unemployment only pays $405 / week (maybe with an extra $25 now thanks to the feds). So that's about 20,000 / year. Bet there aren't many state workers making that amount - or less.

From what I can see here, there are 199,400 employees. 8900 is about 4.5% of that number - a lot of people, but a relatively small amount of people compared to some places.

The same article says that there's expect to be 1,342 from the corrections department. I did hear that as part of the budget that several corrections institutions were going to be shut down.

One of the things they will play with is the CO training the "talk" is for Limited amount of Classes for this year. This will put a strain on staffing as the year goes on. Also the Layoffs usually create more OT as they slash through the department.

  5. Sad to hear, everything I heard about them was always positive. God give them strength to deal with this tragedy.

On another note, having a friend die from a bleed after a very minor accident several years ago I always tell patients that have a head trauma that death is a possibility.

What is more distrubing is the report I read on ABC online. There is no MEDIVAC in that area?

  6. Has the original poster been back to tell us what application the computers are for? Is it CAD interface, e-PCR, or just solitaire between jobs?

That will guide us all in answering the question and help us focus on his application for them.

Yea I got several good leads on vendors and pick up on two makers that I have not heard of. Thanks to all who gave an opinion on what works and what doesn't. The main reason is for PCR's we started to use EMS charts as a database and love it we want to take it to the next level. The main problem is while everyone can tell you the best laptop they have no idea on a rugged system. I has seen a lot of the vendors offers a "XP downgrade" Vista is that bad?

Thanks again for all the input.

  7. :D Started to look around for a computer to use in the ambulances. Found several vendors and started to get pricing. I know there are some people on this forum who worked with rugged computers in or out of EMS. Your 2 cent will be helpful.

    Thanks

  8. I am curious as to how the Town of Fishkill can award a contract to one Fire District and not the other 2? So it sounds like my taxes are paying for 2 agencies? Or is something not being said here ?

Well there are 3 more fire districts in the town beside Rombout. Glenham, Chelesa and Dutchess Junction. The only ambulance tax district is the Rombout fire district.

While I understand there are some MAJOR sickos among us in our profession... I feel like the way this article protrays EMS is that we are all out to have some 'extra fun' with our patients.

    SIGH....... <_<

The question should be how many people are transported and nothing happen. The lawyer who has a lawsuit working will paint all EMS as a bunch of perves. The question is how much of a % of rest of the population are sex abusers. EMS must not tolerate this behavior but they must also protect the workers.
