  1. Got it from http://yorktownfire.org/ Not on me if they didn't put the right number up
  2. Yorktown Fire :589 Millwood Fire: 274 Continental Village Fire: 181 Katonah Fire: 338 Goldens Bridge Fire: 260 Pound Ridge Fire:307 Vista Fire:253 Croton Falls: 622
  3. Is everyone else taking the test at Westhill High School ? Judging for google maps it doesn't seem to have a lot of parking. Anyone have any parking recommendations ?
  4. That's a fair point that tax paying residents should be given a preference. But then shouldn't these districts implement a residency policy during employment? If a kid grows up in his parents house, gets hired and buys a house up in Dutchess the day he graduates the academy how were tax payers helped at all? And why is it a complete preference to residents, NYC residency is only worth 5 points? Personally if I were a commissioner I'd rather hire off the open list simply for the quality of candidates. I'd rather be protected by (and work with) someone from the top of the list than someone who barely passed the written.
  5. I'm still gonna take the test, why not. It's just frustrating to score highly on the exam and watch guys with 80's and even lower get hired because they live in a 4 square mile area. But hey, best man for the job right ?
  6. Is there any way of knowing which FD's will be hiring from the open list or residency ? Do the districts announce it prior to the test ?
  7. That's all well and good, but Westchester is too small and interdependent to just have everyone worry about themselves. When was the last time the was a fire (outside of the big cities) handled by one FD? We work and depend on our neighbors all the time, so there needs to be some consistency.
  8. Just curious, how many FD's hired off the open list last exam ? I only know of Scarsdale and Hartsdale taking non-residents. $100 is a lot of money to be ignored for not being related to a Chief/ Commissioner.
  9. $100 now ? Guess too many people took this in 2011 huh ?
  10. Here's the agility, it's essentially a modified CPAT but on air, and the time limit is how long you can last on your bottle. http://emergencyservices.westchestergov.com/firefighter-1-update Does anyone know the reason for not just going with the CPAT? Also at what point in the class will the agility be given?
  11. Nobody ever survived for long under water huh ? Depends what your definition of long is, but 20+ minutes is longer than most people would think. Also as far as I know, many dive teams will stay in rescue mode for up to an hour before going to recovery due to the possibility of survival. http://abcnews.go.com/US/boy-survives-25-minutes-underwater-rescued-12-year/story?id=14271832 http://www.today.com/id/36190954/ns/today-today_news/t/miracle-boy-ok-after-minutes-underwater/#.VHT5jMmK1mg http://www.12newsnow.com/story/16200067/boy-2-survives-30-minutes-underwater http://www.scotsman.com/news/world/miracle-boys-defy-death-under-the-ice-1-1299632 They're not dead till they're warm and dead !
  12. As much as it may seem like a joke to you, people have survived surprisingly long times under cold water. So time still does count. Ever hear " They're not dead till they're warm and dead" ? Forget just dive teams, how about just water rescue teams in Northern Westchester? Remember the incident this August in Croton Falls when Yorktown took a 20 minute drive to the reservoir as the nearest water rescue unit ? I don't have the exact numbers but I would bet money more people die in Northern Westchester in water incidents than in structure fires. As much as guys in the suburbs love to think we're in the city we're not. This isn't the Bronx with multiple structure fires a night, it's a rural/suburban area covered with bodies of water. It's a bit absurd to think in an area like this the nearest help for a drowning victim is 20+ minutes away.
  13. Couldn't find anything on the town website. Do you have a link ?
  14. It's probably a "large void" because as far as I know Yorktown and Continental Village are the only two left in northern Westchester. Yorktown basically covers from the Hudson to the Connecticut border.
  15. Just read that application, talk about nickel and diming. $50 for written test, $100 for "skills assessment" and $500 for your own physical ? Do you get to buy your own gear too ?
  16. http://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/announcements/oc/25-831.cfm
  17. I usually try not to be an online safety officer. I really don't care if I see a picture of a guy with his waist strap undone or something like that. But what's the deal with bearded firefighters wearing SCBAs ? I'm not talking about guys who forgot to shave in a day or two, I mean guys growing out full beards. I had to have seen at least four guys with full facial hair, my favorite has to be the EMS lieutenant with his Lincoln mutton chops. Come on guys, buy a razor.
  18. Unless things have changed I believe Yonkers still conducts their own classes separate from the county.
  19. So who did hire this class ? Peekskill and Port Chester didn't go through anyone else ?
  20. Current list expires 11/01/15, correct me if I'm wrong but a new list can't be certified till the old one expires right ? Either way, has anyone heard of any FD's canvassing for the spring class ?
  21. I would imagine WEMS was picked being that they already cover all of Northeast Westchester including Armonk with the 45 Medics. Why have one company provide a Medic and another an EMT ?
  22. One EMT ? So what does he do, sit and wait for another EMT to show up ?
  23. Long beach and Garden City, both Long Island. I also think Newburgh and Middletown go there.
  24. I believe Hartsdale, Scarsdale, Fairview, Rye, Port Chester, Eastchester all sent candidates to the CPAT. I'd imagine most of those departments would be sending recruits.
