  1. Good choice in a scanner. I bought myself one. I received the software with the scanner. I like the fire tone out future it works better than my Motorola V. The software is user friendly. It takes a while to get the perfect profiles. Another good feature is you can download right from the Radio Reference wed site. Good luck with it.

  3. I was talking to Judd (GPD portable 72) the other day about the new trunking system for Greenwich. Don’t waste your money on a scanner. The new digital system will be broadband and the software will encrypt all of the public safety talk groups i.e. Police, Fire, and EMS. You will be able to scan them but not lock on to a talk group. That how is was explained to me. The system is still several months away from going to digital. Talk to CWT III when he is on. He can explain it to you better.

  4. Does anyone know where I can find out what the laws are in the state of CT, in regaurd to fire Departments. I'm looking to find out if a fire engine can respond to an emergency call with lights on and no sirens. In New York this is against the law, however I'm not sure about other states.

Steve, when responding to calls in CT if you have your emergency lights on you must have your audible warning device or devices on continuously per 14-283CGS. When Greenwich dispatch tells you to respond in Code 10, that means No Emergency lights and NO audible warning device or devices. That’s were your Dept needs to have an SOP for Response to alarms. If you had one there be no issue.

I had a higher ranking officer telling me to respond code 2 against my better judgment and the law I think

It sounds like the higher ranking officer needs more experience and training
