What I want to know is how does the jury, the judge and the defending attorney(for the tenants) sleep at night? I mean really? They just let the Fallen Brothers heroic actions of that day to be disgraced, doing a job they do not have the balls to do. I am just losing faith in society, im an optomist, but come on, this just sends the wrong message...

Your best bet is to probably go to a commercial or private ambulance such as empress or transcare, if you go to fdny you'll be stuck because thats a full time career job.

To each their own. The FDNY*EMS isn't the best choice for everyone. Sure there are positives, but i make more than a 2nd step FDNY EMT and my benefits are fine so there was never incentive for me to go. The the training opportunities are probably just as good as any other agency - its all about what you, as an individual make of it. I've seen plenty of skelly FDNY*EMS members just as i have seen many skelly commercial agency workers. No question FDNY is well on it's way to something very good, just not that there yet for me personally. That said, if you want to do EMS for the rest of your life then i think you need to seriously consider FDNY*EMS. If not, then you can consider it but i would say you can probably get similar experience/opportunities at Empress with less of a commute and wait.
I notice your a young guy. What really is most important is that you get a 4 year degree. I strongly suggest you look to that, if you haven't already.
Haha yeah I'm a young guy, 19 as of today, and trust me I'm going to stay in school until I get a 4year degree.
-
And the fundamental problems of EMS are summed up by one who has not even become an EMS provider yet!Yeah but that doesn't mean I don't like EMS or think down apon it. Because I do like it and I am going to give it my all. So my statement before does not "sum up the EMS system".
-
Look at EMS as a temporary step. Take every test out there and become a fireman. Still the best job on earth. Good Luck!Haha it's kind of sad to say but yea. I mean I've always wanted to be a firemen since the day I was born. I do think though that for some people who feel that way about ems thats a good route.

There is no FDNY class coming up, they cancelled the last one. FDNY is nice but if you don't plan on doing this for the rest of your life there are plenty of other agencies to work for that offer much of the same.I agree with goose, i don't plan on doing ems for the rest of my life.
-
I don't know. I was thinking it over today and really feel like I'm just going to go with empress and learn. I don't mind all the transports, I'll just use the opportunity to learn and make the best of it. Thanx.
-
Doesn't really matter, to be honest. With any commercial company you are going to have to put your time in - IE: running transports. After some of that they will let you play on the 911 side of things. As far as being busy, if you work for a commercial you will always be busy - but not with just 911 jobs. Depending on where you work and the system you work in with a commercial you may do a combination of 911 and transports.
Never worked for either - but its the same stuff wherever you go, more or less from where i sit.
All that being as busy as possible stuff, that may change after a month or two
Haha damn. what other good ems jobs are there then?
I would also look into Westchester EMS.How are they? Do they run a ton of transports?

Ok, so I just finished my EMT class last month and am waiting for my results from the state. I want to jump right into a job, get some experience, get on the streets and see where it takes me(whatever that may be, paramedic, a department, etc.)
I did some research and found that really the only two private ambulance companies that see work are empress and transcare. so basically my question is which should I go for? I'm kind of partial towards empress because I'm from Yonkers and I did my ride alongs with them. What are the pros/cons of each? Also, I want to be as busy as possible. So if you could help me that would be greatly appriciated thanx.

very good point, but it still doesnt change the fact that this does make you stop and think, what kind of standards are we holding people up to if they can do whatever they want, with no reguard for human life or anybody else, then get aquitted? I mean really, did you watch the news? when they showed the tenants, they acted like they were the "ones who were wronged" here, crying and holding their arms up like "hallejuah", right in front of the families of the guys who went in there to try and save them, and tradgically passed away because of their carelessness, want a bunch of savages, utter Bulls***!
