I miss seeing his work in what is now the Journal News.
RIP Frank Sr.

On the front page of EMTBravo.com, there's a photo of a burnt-out Sloper ambulance. It says the drill took place last November, and Alamo donated the ambulance.
My question is, how and why did Alamo hold onto a Sloper ambulance without repainting it for so long?

Is Rescue 3 getting a new firehouse?
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/pdf/cpc/070300.pdf
I wonder if any of the other rescue companies will get new houses as well....I know some are operating from cramped, obsolete quarters.

On the last photo of Seth's photo hunt in Boston last weekend, there is a photo with the writing "Where EMTBravo.com Was Born".
Just curious about the story behind that?

Vista FD holds meeting on firehouse renovationsBy SEAN GORMAN
THE JOURNAL NEWS
(Original publication: November 12, 2007)
LEWISBORO - The Vista Fire Department is holding an informational meeting tomorrow about its plans for a multimillion-dollar firehouse modernization.
Fire officials say they need to update the headquarters - built in 1954 - and are asking fire district voters to approve a $3,350,000 bond on Dec. 11 to pay for it.
"It's totally outdated," said Fire Chief Gary Lawson.
The meeting starts at 8 p.m. at the firehouse, 377 Smith Ridge Road.
The renovation would add a sixth bay to the building so the department's two ambulances can be parked side by side instead of bumper to bumper, Lawson said. The building's interior would be reconfigured to move the kitchen and meeting room away from the vehicle bays, reducing exhaust fumes in those rooms and where medical supplies are stored.
The current building has a leaky roof and doesn't comply with federal safety and disability access regulations, said Fire Commissioner Peter Raho.
In 2005, voters defeated a $3.65 million bond that would have doubled the size of the firehouse. The new plan relies on $500,000 from the fire district's surplus, Raho said, and a 20-year bond would require an average annual tax increase of $3.11 per $1,000 of assessed value. For his home - assessed at $54,200 - the additional cost would be $168.56 a year.

What could cause glass to spontaneously shatter like that?
Kudos on the photos, I guess always having your camera with you captures dramatic moments such as that every now and again.

SFD302, I want to ask the same question as EMTBravo, did you even read that thread? Don't even let this person aggrevate you EMTBravo, it's quite obvious his intent.

How is it that nobody is enrolling in this class? It would seem there are plenty of support only members that this would apply to, but is most of this kind of training done in house anyways? Who is this class marketed to then?
This would be a good class to open to Explorers.
SCENE SUPPORT OPS.(Bulletin #06-46)
Chief's and Training Officer's;
This course is scheduled to be begin on June 22. To date, only four students have been registered. Unless enough students are registered by Monday June 19, the course will have to be cancelled.
If cancelled, this will be the fourth failed attempt to conduct the SSO course.
Student's who complete this course can later bridge into the Firefighter-I course at unit #4. It also allows those waiting to receive Firefighter-I training, the ability to act in an exterior fire-ground support role.Â
Although it is a stand alone course designed for those individuals who do not desire to become interior firefighter's, it is also a component of the Firefighter-I curriculum.

Any news on the Fire Patrol front? Are they still fighting the shutdown, or has a date been set?

Anybody going out to the Expo in Harrisburg this weekend?
Any locals have their apparatus shown out there?
I was thinking of making the trip for the first time. How far is it, and is it worth the drive?

How is the Putnam County Foam team comprised? I just heard them being called for at a fire in Patterson.

Air Force One subject of Internet

Air Force One Vandalized?
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A startling Internet video that shows someone spraying graffiti on President Bush's jet looked so authentic that the Air Force wasn't immediately certain whether the plane had been targeted.
It was all a hoax. No one actually sprayed the slogan "Still Free" on the cowling of Air Force One.
The pranksters responsible for the grainy, two-minute Web video - employed by a New York fashion company - revealed Friday how they pulled it off: a rented 747 in California painted to look almost exactly like Air Force One.
"I wanted to do something culturally significant, wanted to create a real pop-culture moment," said Marc Ecko of Marc Ecko Enterprises. "It's this completely irreverent, over-the-top thing that could really never happen: this five-dollar can of paint putting a pimple on this Goliath."
The video shows hooded graffiti artists climbing barbed-wire fences and sneaking past guards with dogs to approach the jumbo jet. They spray-paint a slogan associated with free expression.
After the video began circulating on the Web on Tuesday, the Air Force checked to see whether the plane had been vandalized.
"We're looking at it, too," said Lt. Col. Bruce Alexander, a spokesman for the Air Mobility Command's 89th Airlift Wing, which operates Air Force One. "It looks very real."
Alexander later confirmed that no such spray-painting had occurred.
Marc Ecko, head of Marc Ecko Enterprises, says there was a comical moment when he first saw the letters being applied.
Ecko acknowledged Friday that his company had rented a 747 cargo jet at San Bernardino's airport and covertly painted one side to look like Air Force One. Employees signed secrecy agreements and worked inside a giant hangar until the night the video was made. Ecko declined to say how much the stunt cost.
"It's not cheap," he said. "You have to be rich."

I remember a while ago on this forum someone posted the tentative schedule regarding Somers FD 75th Anniversary events in 2006. Well now that it is 2006 does anyone have an official list of events with dates, especially the parade date.

Putnam 911 functions despite Verizon phone glitchBy TERRY CORCORAN
THE JOURNAL NEWS
(Original publication: February 27, 2006)
CARMEL — A glitch in the Verizon telephone lines today has forced Putnam County to switch its 911 operations from the new Emergency Operations Center to the county Sheriff's Office.
The glitch is not affecting 911 service, said Adam Stiebeling, deputy commissioner of emergency services.
"It's transparent to anyone who calls 911," Stiebeling said. "Emergency services are still being dispatched and calls are being recorded through our CAD (computer-aided dispatch) system."
Under the county's back-up system, 911 calls are routed through the Sheriff's Office in the case of a malfunction. The Emergency Operations Center sent some of its dispatchers to the Sheriff's Office to assist with the calls, Stiebeling said.
The problem only appears to be affecting lines in the 225 exchange, which includes Carmel and Lake Carmel.
"We don't have a straight answer from Verizon on what caused the problem, but they've been notified and are working on it," he said.

What type of boat are you looking for exactly? I believe the Coast Guard makes available surplus boats to Fire and Police services. You may want to give them a call. Also, I don't know who sells the Zodiac boats around here, but you may want to give that person a call to see if they have any used or demos for sale.

Yonkers Firefighters do work hard for their money. Part of the reason for their pay I feel is that they have a strong union. However, what I don't like, is that the next city over, Mount Vernon, they get paid vastly less then their Yonkers counterparts, and are very poorly equipped, yet they have just as big of a fire danger than Yonkers.
