  1. Can anyone give an update of the situation up in Croton Falls? I know they were toned out earlier in the day for a brush fire IAO the train station, and was then reported to be off of I-684. Then reported to be accessed by a cul-de-sac by 2073, 148 and Somers/Croton Falls mini attacks...and now they called for the County Gators. How big is the area of brush?

  2. That truck is part of the XT series from International. The MXT has a new cab design. The CXT (one with Jay Leno) is the same cab as the 7000 series, while the RXT has the same cab as the 4000 series. [attachmentid=2427]

  3. On all structural calls within our fire district, there will always be mutual aid heading our way. Because we do not have a tanker or ladder, we can only fight a fire for so long before our resources are depleated. There will always be two tankers and a truck responding regardless. Recently, we have created an automatic contract to have Kisco's Tower Ladder 14 respond on commercial alarms at the Fox Lane School campus. As we all know, automatic responses are beneficial, and its better to ask for something earlier rather than later.

  5. Last I heard, the thruway authority still has its own "Tappen Zee" division, and basically runs as a small city (maintenance and towing). A few years back I had read an article on the towing and emergency services division, to which "wrecker 1" is part of, and they run 24/7, 365. Considering the bridge has heavy volume and no shoulders, a break down can cause major problems.Sometimes if the situation calls for it, they will use the major push bar on the front of the truck to get you off the bridge. One story stated that a woman who had a fear of crossing the bridge had to get out and be driven across and back everyday of the workweek by a thruway employee (Now thats dedication). Other stories consist of being able to change a flat like a pit crew in Nascar as the traffic still moves 70 mph by. They operate at least two other wreckers, one which I believe is a Sterling Acterra configured the same as above, and a flatbed with a crew of 10. It sounds like one heck of a job! Hope you are getting better Seth...

  7. The Bedford Fire Department will soon be recieving a Scotty RV manufactured fire prevention and safety trailer to use among the numerous schools and camps located in our district. From what I know, Yonkers and Mohegan FD's also own these trailers. If anyone else owns one, or has had experience with these units, please post below. Also, if your fire department does fire prevention, and does not use a trailer, but has some other form of equipment i.e. "sparky the fire dog" motorized units or otherwise, please share. Thanks!

  8. Bedford Fire Department has an active dive team, with monthly drills and training. From what I can recall from our biggest dive call ever this past summer, dive teams from Somers, Yorktown, Long Ridge, Stamford, Greenwich, Mt. Pleasant, and New York State were called in along with multiple marine units.

  9. Up here in Bedford, Bedford DPW helps out with the State Roads and plows in tandem being that the State usually runs only one International through here every few hours. I'd imagine Interstate 684 and the Parkways would be plowed first. It may be that there is not enough equipment to go around, but keep in mind they have to travel over and plow a larger area than the local dpw plowing only within that town.

  12. It would be quite the nice suprise if it was Greenville. GFD358 can you confirm?

By the way, Greenville is a fire district within the unincorpoated Edgemont section of the Town Of Greenburgh.  The area has a mailing address of Scarsdale only.

And Mount Kisco's Mack, sad to see another beautiful CF leave the county.

Is the Mack (Engine 104) being replaced? The "new" engine order for Mt. Kisco is for the Independent Company....replacing their refurbed Hahn/Pierce Engine 106.
