Fairview uses it...It was used at the fire at 81 Prospect Street on Aug. 19, 2006...heavy fire showing self-venting out the rear windows...E-174 used its CAFS system to knock down the fire in approximately 7 minutes...I know they have used the CAFS system on several other occassions as well

absolutely true...quite often you see veterans go back and take the basics such as ground ladders, etc. as a refresher sinec it is 100% accurate u will use the basics more in your career than any other class or skills

I know on Long Island some towns give volunteer firemen tax breaks...I think it is on a town by town basis, not a statewide thing
-

This is true...The current Fire Annex at Camp Smith will be transformed into a mini Iraqi village to train troops heading overseas as Mofire24 has stated
-
It is true...I just took Firefighter Survival and F.A.S.T there 2 weeks ago and they were the last hands-on classes i think as alot of equipment had already been removed...The closure will probably lead to more classes given at local county training centers

Tornado touched down at 16 Saw Mill River Rd "California Closets" Building Collapse...Hawthorne, Thornwood, and Valhalla dispatched
-
I know Fairview added them to their rigs within the past year...not sure what anyone's opinion of them is
-
This is true....no rumor...we recieved a letter from Tarrytown stating exactly what you did...cancelled due to lack of responses
-

According to the Westchester County DES Apparatus Listings there are currently 47 rescues in service. I believe this is correct as West Harrison has place Rescue 35 in service so that is no longer a reserved number on the list as is Thornwoods Rescue 75. Same holds true for Somers adding Rescue 20.

According to the DES website which is shown near the top of the forum,
"There are 19 members who respond are first responders to fire emergencies on the entire Valhalla Campus from 8am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday. After hours the campus is covered by Valhalla and Hawthorne Fire Departments."
As for chief cars, I know the Chief there drives a red Suburban, low profile, which can be seen in the photos from the Irvington fire on 1/15/06. It is 3 pictures down from Dobbs Ferry Car 2093

Grasslands FD has an engine and a truck as well as housing for the County Haz-Mat team and the Field Com. Unit. Engine 7 is an International i believe, not sure what year. Ladder 7 is an HME/Smeal 105' similar to Yonkers ladder 72 and 73.

I have a ? after completing ff1 are you allowed to be an interior ff or do you have to take intermediate and ff2?By the state standards you are interior certified. However, it is up to your individual department to determine interior status. For example, I took this class the past 2 weeks but my department, Hartsdale, requires us to take Firefighter Survival in order to be interior certified.

On behalf of the class I would like to thank Jim and Tom for their dedication to training us in beginning our fire careers. We would also like to thank the other instructors from New Rochelle, Greenville, and White Plains for helping them out in achieving this goal. Over this two week period we learned alot and bonded as a group of brothers/sisters. Thanks again and I'm sure we will see you again in other classes throughout our fire careers. Thanks and stay safe...
