Pleasantville uses it 24/7 my opinion is leave em running, whats wrong with a second notification, there have been many times when Im cutting grass using the blower and dont hear the pager go off, but I can hear the horns 5x major 3x minor. For the people in the village that are against them, I bet they wouldn't mind it if there was a fire at their house

Service on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines is being restored into and out of Grand Central Terminal, Metro North railroad officials said. Customers should expect extensive delays of up to 90 minutes and crowded condtions on trains as service resumes.
Metro-North Service Delayed Due to NYC Building Collapse
NEW YORK (AP) -- A five-story vacant apartment building partially collapsed in upper Manhattan, leading to the suspension of dozens of rush-hour suburban trains. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Metro-North spokeswoman Suzanne Lopez said the collapse occurred near 124th Street and Park Avenue in East Harlem. She said trains were being held at all stations, including Grand Central Terminal and at 125th Street, a block away from the building.
New York City Buildings Department spokeswoman Kate Lindquist says two of the building's walls and several interior floors partially collapsed. Buildings inspectors and forensic engineers were on the scene.
Railroad spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said the trains were stopped at stations so passengers could get off if they wished.

I agree, it should be more a part of training. Especially if you have certain areas that have no hydrants. We actually just spoke about having a large scale drafting and relay pumping drill in the near future, so any depts around Pleasantville let me know if your interested.

Seth I couldn't agree with you more, I worked the open house for the Power Dept. A few bad apples shouldn't spoil the bunch. There definately were a few obnoxious railfans who thought they knew it all about everything. For the most part though I certainly saw more of the families and definately more kids than anything else, but again I was behind the displays all day and not mingling with the crowd. Believe me most of the employees at MNRR know the rude and annoying types as soon as they open their mouths, but love working the open house as much as people love coming to it

CAFS ends the routine car fire in much less then 500 gallons.Plus, if you use your water efficiently, then 500-750 should be plenty to knock down a routine care fire.
If you dispatch a 750-1000 gallon engine and a tanker to a car fire, then you have some serious firefighting tatic issues (given extrodinary circumstances)
As for apparartus, Engine to suppress, truck to block on a highway and manage traffic and open the hood and trunk.
No need to waste resources and/or commit them to a highway if the fire doesn't threaten property or lives. If a car burns, a car burns....we put it out. Typically an engine company job- use the least amount of resources for this, and keep the rest in service for LIFE and PROPERTY.
I'm with you, anything having to do with hoselines is an engine responsibility, keep the rest in service for life and property, plus most towns have 2 or 3 engines but only one rescue

In my opinion, I would take the structure fire, your assigned to that call you don't know if anyones trapped, water situation in the area, exposure problems etc. Plus there should be other rigs on the road. Radio in the MVA.

Anyone know of any video sites of the implosion, It seems they dont show that stuff anymore. I'd be cool to watch. Hats off to those guys, I think its amazing these guys can drop a 20 story building into itself. Its an art.

I agree, with what happened with that certain dept and it was a great call by the cheif. I sometimes think though, that to many depts are getting called to one scene. I understand the situations in the daytime, but the evening should be a different story. I mean at 8pm you have a room and contents fire in a hydrant area, do you need 4 or 5 other depts involved or just yours and a FAST. All I'm saying is that I think Mutual Aid is sometimes getting out of control. What do you guys think?
