  1. we have no one to blame but our county legislatures for not approving then tech team we have tried to get started... there were close to 200 people ( ff, pd, EMS and other valuable resources) coming to the meetings and drills, willing to get this up.... but without the needed legal matters and funding, our county will go with out...

  2. Take it from one involved in a roll over, it's a good idea to share it with fellow firefighters, for many reasons. The one reason I think of the most, is so that others think twice about what they do, and maybe no one else will have it happen to them....

When T 10 rolled, I spent the next 2 weeks searching the web looking for reports on fire vehicle roll overs, reading everything I could, it was a real shocker.... according to the statis I should of been dead ....

so, I say, after all the reports are done, show the pics and tell just what happen, it may be the wake up call to some drivers...

  3. believe it capt32, I have been " playing " in the smoke house for over 20 years... grant it, way back when, being able to burn in it made it a great training tool.

When we use it, most of our guys know .... ok... the hallway goes to the left then a door, then a split, then rooms here and there... and most times we perform our taining in complete darkness...

yes, its a good site, what I have been trying to do is find out what others do there, and to get some new ideas... in most cases its better to train with other depts who operate a bit different then you do...

one recent time, in the burn building we raised the main stairs to the rt. of the main door way... this pissed the guys off, as they knew the stairs where there, and it took them a while to adjust and search for a different means of getting to the second floor.

so, to close, we are still looking for other FAST teams who want to cross train with, we go the first monday night of every month... let us know.

  4. I agree with you 100 % !!! being the chief tanker driver in Croton, one of the things that pisses me off the most is trying to get close enough to the scene to drop off my water, then get out of the way for the next tanker...

One time at a Yorktown structure fire, just as I was about to start backing up Baldwin Road, and a YPD patrol car pulled in behind me, after telling the guy that I have to get up there, he said no problem he will stay out of the way, after making the long trek, there was his patrol car right in front of the dump pond... this was resolved as I drove his unit into the woods.

But yes, nothing gets you mad more then coming back from a fill site, and having trouble moving through the parade of cars...please keep it to one side, and get off the road. !!!

  5. hey all, just wondering out loud here, of all the departments out there, would any of the teams care to have a multi FAST team drill ??? compare how we all operate, give each other new ideas for training and help one another out.

In Croton, most guys know the WTC smoke house by heart and have been searching for new training sites... ( other counties, etc. )

Ossining had a great drill a couple of years back, wish we could of used the structure more, but the day was good. Yorktown had the dream condition, but our chiefs dropped that ball... So anyone have an interest to cross train ??

  6. yes, what about the trench collapse ??? I see that ( Basic ops. ) is offered in May, on the weekends... But then there is no scheduled advanced for weekends in 2005 .... will one be offered if the " basic " runs....

as it was, it took me almost 2 years to complete the building collapse course...

maybe we could start a forum for people planning to sign up for courses at Smith, and actually get them filled

  7. we meet at the training center, last Tuesday of the month... so for October it's the 26 at 7 pm... presently there are members from all over Westchester, maybe someone from your town.... we usually meet in the garage or if there is one open, in a class room.... look for Gerry M.'s, white truck and trailer.... or sent me your email and I will send you the last training notice..... all are welcome....
