  2. Thanks guys for the great responses. Me personally I love the color maybe becaused I spec'd it out! I'm trying to get my boss to let me repaint our 4500's all maroon! Seth to answer your question we went away for the 4500's strictly because LINK AIR RIDE SUSPENSION! IT IS THE WORSE RIDE WE EVER HAD! after numerous CHASSIS revisions and lots of money "they won't give anything for free even if it is their fault" they still can't get it right. Other then that there have been no real major problems. I left out for you guys the back chevrons are reflective striping that we now have on all our trucks. This truck will replace our 2000 Braun slant side this is in need of a rest.

  3. I'm from harrison and the paper left out the fact that we were even there and we were the third piece of apparatus on scene! so that should tell you something and the old saying goes don't believe everything that you read. Heres the harrison side. we were in quarters finally! enjoying a little break when we heard mamaroneck had a working fire and is requesting a engine from harrison to the scene. just as we were jumping into our engine the tones went off. I checked my ipage after getting home and we recieved the call at 01:36. just as we pulled out on to the apron mamaroneck E-42 and bedford hills T-57 were coming past our quarters and we followed, but there was some confusion as to which way to go E42 took I-95 and E-11 and T- 57 took local streets to mamaroneck ave. we had to go thru some deep water but we arrived about 5-6 minutes behind E-42 it was about 10-15 minutes total for all of us to reach the scene. Now during the response we heard the transmissions from west harrison R-35 saying they had heavy smoke and fire and 1 victim trapped upon arrival and were going to start a search. about 5 minutes later they report victim found and were in the process of removal and patient was braught out to awaiting ems and transported prior to our arrival. so I don't believe that it took 30 mitues for a piece of apparatus to show up. Now don't get me wrong we all know that 10-15 minute response time in not good at all but given the conditions( mamaroneck ave in the village was under 6 feet of water) there was no other way to get there any faster even calling mutual aid with us still would have take the same amount of time. the only thing that would have helped would be to stage apparatus in that area.(thats another discussion) This is my 2 cents that given time of night this fire had a very good head start prior to the wife discovering it there was still alot of fire showing when we pulled up and the conditions just worsened as we started to help with the attack we had three handlines in operation while the tower was setting up and after about 20 minutes the horns were sounding to get out because the fire was in the basement and it was burning the floors out.It was a ruff night for all. I will end with this everone did a damn good job given what we had to work with and west harrison made a damn fine grab even if it did'nt turn out the way we liked. so GOOD JOB GUYS!

  4. efd, The ladder is actually from harrison not boston our old ladder had replaced the last macboston they used. The first one they bought was from boston. when we replaced it to get our tower it was donated to nys fire academy and after some service there it was retired and the macboston group purchased it. I have see it awhile back and everything we left in there is still in the same place and you can still read harrison fd in the paint on the tractor other then some rust it still looks the same.

  5. actually the fire was on 9/10-01 on sunnyridge rd. about 8 or 9 pm the house was struck by lighting we had some lighting storms that night. the house was well involved prior our arrival due to no one being home at the time and fire was already blowing thru the entire roof when the engine pulled up. we had just about everyone there that night it turned out to be huge manpower issue due to the heat of the fire and the warm weather, ems was sending alot of men to the hospital that night I was one of them. the next morning I was woken up with a call that a plane crashed into the trade center and I was back to work and in the bronx within a hour.

  11. it's hard most people don't want to risk giving away a patch with out one in return. try asking people in your dept for old uniform patches or friends who might have extra just keep asking and build up your supply. pm me with your address and i'll send you a patch.

  12. I look at it this way if i fall from an aerial ladder a helmet injury is the least of my problems its the sudden stop i'm worried about. But really if you fall from any height i would worry more about the rest of the equipment i have on like a scott pack, handlight, any tools in my pockets or a hand tool. Then again HOW MANY OF US USE OUR CHIN STRAPS? for a helmet to stay on while falling.

  13. Can I ask why do agencies feel the need to spend over 100,00 dollars on an ambulance? We need custom cabintes, Strobes, LEDs, Gas window tiniting, etc. Does having a truck like this make people think they will provide a better patient care? The only thing it creates is more headaches when the eletrical system shorts out or putting an enormous Mod Body on a chasis that can't handle it. It is funny because I work for a commercial service that buys 60,000 dollar ambulances and we do just fine. Maybe they should find a better way to spend tax payers money or put it towards a better idea.

I have to disagree with you not all agencies out there spend taxpayer money just because it's there or they can.Do you get to say what you want or don"t need when your comm. service orders an ambulance? Is that ambulance you use perfect or is there something you wish it had or didn't have. That's the whole reason behind a ambulance committee. remember that the ones ordering an ambulance are or should be residences of that town and are also the taxpayers paying for it. If you check the prices on a type 3 (not a mini mod) with a ford chasiss run about 90 to 100k just for the bare bones. as for the 60k ones remember you get what you pay for. we had them and they didn't last if you work in commerical service you know that for them its about price. These places your talking about are how long are they keeping the ambulance? if they spend 100k and 2 years later they want to a new one then thats a bit much but if they keep it for 8, 10 years then that's not to bad. Every service paid or volley runs differently what you think is to much might not be for them. the rest of what you mention boils down to lack of knowledge. if someone knows nothing about ambulances then they should not be ordering one!
