  1. Very interesting fire yesterday. I was on the first due engine as well as on the first team to enter the woods and it was a difficult fire to get to. We ended up setting up a command post on Buckout Road. We walked about 400 to 500 yards in. The problem was that the fire was spread over a large area and to get to it we were up and down little gullies and hills. We entered in with Purchase and Units from White Plains. Due to the large amount of fire that had already burned, some trees were beginning to come down and in some spots the amount of fire burning was too much for the indian tanks. To all those that were there, thanks for the help, much appreciated. As of last night around 930 there were some random spots that were still burning but as of this morning, they had burned out. Guys in the Air 1. Well done, was at one point about 30 yards from a drop. Really cool to see that work. Thanks again. Would be greatful to get any photos that may have been taken.

  2. Ok, here are some updated photos of our new Utility. The truck is pretty much finished and ready for delivery. Pictures were taken Friday down at KME for the final inspection. There are just a hand full of minor things that KME is going to modify to our specs. I will post pictures in the next couple weeks once the truck is in hq.

    Enjoy

  3. Just to clarify, Compartment above rear door is for the stokes basket. KME Is building it. Lettering went on this week and finished product should be by if not this friday, by the first of the month.

Truck will serve as utility with pumps for water conditions, some minimal hazmat items, mostly pads and some quick dry. BUt yes, this truck will be our FASTeam response rig.

Thanks for the compliments, will have more photos once the truck comes in.

  4. Totally ridiculous! Mamaroneck ought to close for the rest of the year and tell parents that all the kids will have to repeat the year because of this nonsense. That would probably get the parents involved and put some peer pressure on the kids who think it is "just a funny prank" to give up the morons who are doing it. Imagine if all the parents who use school as day care had to deal with their little monsters all week!

Chris, you are absolutley right. Why do you think some kids have such great attendance records? I teach down in the city and it shouldn't say "teacher" on my occupation title, sometimes i feel like a "Professional Babysitter"

  5. Heard a lot of radio traffic and a hotline for a car chase that was going through White Plains. WCPD Air one was possibly dispatched, not sure. But I did hear MTA K9 and Harrison K9.

Also heard multiple WPPD dispatched in the area of Park Ave(?), rockledge rd, church street, Broadway x Rockledge. Multiple units on foot in the area.

  7. Glad to hear the chief is doing well. i was actually on my way to work and got on the hutch at north street heading south and saw EMS responding. As for the whole media thing, I never completely trust what the news has to say.

2162, hope to see you back soon. Get well Chief.

  8. I'm from harrison and the paper left out the fact that we were even there and we were the third piece of apparatus on scene! so that should tell you something and the old saying goes don't believe everything that you read. Heres the harrison side. we were in quarters finally! enjoying a little break when we heard mamaroneck had a working fire and is requesting a engine from harrison to the scene. just as we were jumping into our engine the tones went off. I checked my ipage after getting home and we recieved the call at 01:36. just as we pulled out on to the apron mamaroneck E-42 and bedford hills T-57 were coming past our quarters and we followed, but there was some confusion as to which way to go E42 took I-95 and E-11 and T- 57 took local streets to mamaroneck ave. we had to go thru some deep water but we arrived about 5-6 minutes behind E-42 it was about 10-15 minutes total for all of us to reach the scene. Now during the response we heard the transmissions from west harrison R-35 saying they had heavy smoke and fire and 1 victim trapped upon arrival and were going to start a search. about 5 minutes later they report victim found and were in the process of removal and patient was braught out to awaiting ems and transported prior to our arrival. so I don't believe that it took 30 mitues for a piece of apparatus to show up. Now don't get me wrong we all know that 10-15 minute response time in not good at all but given the conditions( mamaroneck ave in the village was under 6 feet of water) there was no other way to get there any faster even calling mutual aid with us still would have take the same amount of time. the only thing that would have helped would be to stage apparatus in that area.(thats another discussion) This is my 2 cents that given time of night this fire had a very good head start prior to the wife discovering it  there was still alot of fire showing when we pulled up and the conditions just worsened as we started to help with the attack we had three handlines in operation while the tower was setting up and after about 20 minutes the horns were sounding to get out because the fire was in the basement and it was burning the floors out.It was a ruff night for all. I will end with this everone did a damn good job given what we had to work with and west harrison made a damn fine grab even if it did'nt turn out the way we liked. so GOOD JOB GUYS!

I agree with what hfdr19 says. Unfortunately what we read does dont say the whole story. Being on Rescue 35 that night i know our response was the quickest we could make it under the circumstances. As for when it came to finding the victim, I know that it was very quick and under terrible conditions. I wasn't on the grab of the victim, but i was one of the ones who grabbed him at the front door and helped placed him down so that EMS (Who gave an awesome effort) could work on him. Everyone there worked extremely hard and I was glad to have worked with all of you.

  9. Mamaronck house fire kills man, continues burning

    (Original publication: April 16, 2007)

MAMARONECK VILLAGE - Firefighters have spent more than six hours trying to put out a blaze in a flooded home that killed an unidentified man early this morning.

Officials have not released the man's name, but the 243 Knollwood Ave. home is listed in the phone book as belonging to Jacques Kirsch, whose last name also appears on the front door of the two-story stucco house on the end of the cul-de-sac.

The man's wife made it out of the house unharmed, but the male resident was trapped in the upstairs bedroom as the first floor collapsed, officials said.

Firefighters rescued him under "very severe conditions," said Deputy Chief Kevin Delner. They administered CPR, but he died at the scene.

Firefighters arrived at the house at about 2 a.m. today. The fire began in the basement, but due to seven feet of flooding there, firefighters are having a difficult time reaching it and determining whether the cause was electrical.

At 8:20 a.m., engines arrived from Croton-on-Hudson and Sleepy Hollow to help relieve exhausted firefighters who have continued working on the smoldering structure.

Flooded roads in the area have forced emergency crews to bypass direct roads, creating delays in response times. Representatives from the county medical examiner's office have also not been able to get to Mamaroneck village to obtain the body and investigate the death, officials said at 8 a.m. today.

The house has a large hole in the roof, and every window is knocked out. The only thing left unscathed is the Audi car parked in the garage.

Nice job on everyone's part. Being the first responding engine, we pulled up to the house with smoke fully engulfing the house. Upon entry, two firefighthers found the victim top of the stairs under extremely heavy smoke condition. The house itself was very unsafe for firefighting, lots of clutter and items all over the house. Was very difficult to find access to the basement as well. THanks again to all that were there, good work.
