  1. With the hot weather upon us we need to make sure we take care of ourselves and hydrate hydrate hydrate!!!! Try and stay away from too much joe, its a diuretic. Clear non-carbonated liquids throughout the day are your best bet. A good mix is 80/20 of water to powerade/gatorade to sip all day and straight gatorade/powerade after strenuous activities (ie calls/runs). If you have a couple of bottles of water throw them on the rig at the beginning of your shift b/c we never know how long we'll be out of the barn. If there is no need for turnout coat take it off or at least open up the chest. WE CAN NOT BE OF ANY GOOD IF WE ARE OUT OF THE FIGHT!! Did I mention to HYDRATE? I've had heat stroke once before and its no fun. Remember.... HYDRATE!

well said thank you !!!

  2. I have contacted Alamo, NDP, and Transcare looking for work as an EMT, however NDP said they are in a freeze while the other two said that they need 3-5 years of driving experience per their insurance. I received my license in sept of 07 and have no infractions or accidents on my record whatsoever. I was wondering if MLSS or any other ems service near by would hire me as a non-driver EMT, or wouldn't have a problem with my lack of driving experience.

    thanks in advance

    herringtrot . i would try westchester ems. go to website.westchester ems.com ??

    good luck shac 7313

  5. So I'm on my way into work last night and I stop at 7-eleven for a cup of coffee. As I'm walking out I see a large column of smoke starting from up the street. (The smoke was reflecting off the clouds from the lights at Langley AFB) I smell the distinct smell of plastic burning and think to myself that this could be bad. I call the dispatcher and tell them that I'm on my way to take a look and she tells me that the board lit up right as I called about the fire. So it's 10 at night, I'm heading into work and going to miss this worker. As I come up on the scene, Hampton Truck 8 is jut setting up and Squad 10 is laying in the 5 inch to the truck. There is fire through the roof of a 50" x 30" apartment building.

By the time I walked around the Wendy's lot to the scene, the 2nd alarm was transmitted which brought in 2 more truck and 4 more engine companies (Total apparatus on scene at last call was 4 truck, 6 engine, 1 heavy rescue, 1 support vehicle, 5 medic units which ran for quite a while back and forth)

post-14018-1228496425.jpg thanks for the great pics

Sorry for the not so great quality on the pictures. I didn't have all my gear with me. I've also attached the link to the local news story.

  6. what about that firehouse in sleepy hollow? i think it houses rescue or engine 86. the firehouse is apart of the villages historical society. the upstairs still has some original furniture and even opening the bay door (swing open, barn style) must still be opened manually...t's not exactly a simple process.

maybe a shfd member can tell us how old it is.

that would be en85,s qts not eng-86.

    eng-85 qts around 1920,s ??
