  1. I am a ham radio operator for 10 years as well as several other posters. The only reason this person you refer to would have red lights is:

    1. Because he's a wacker and thinks he's above god. (I'm sure we all know someone who fits this category.)

    2. He's authorized by the county as some special privledge due to his work OUTSIDE HAM RADIO.

You get a lot of people who failed the mall security test and think they can run around doing whatever they damn please. Sadly they join groups like ARES/RACES and other valuable volunteer groups and think it gives them some supreme power, which is doesn't. In all reality, it's a great service to the community to assist in widespread emergencies where general means of communication aren't available. I've personally done some ham radio communications on Hurricane Floyd, 9/11, The 2003 Blackout, etc. It was supporting the Red Cross shelter operations as well as assist the Westchester OEM with general communications. It's requested help, and not freelanced. The other ham radio operators I've worked with in the past are great people who don't overstep their boundries.

Also please don't mix up ARES/RACES with groups like REACT International. Westchester REACT has had a number of runins with the State Police as well as County Police. They try to direct traffic, wear badges, have their cars (generally old model police cars) vinyl'd up with sayings like "Emergency Response." And the amounts of amber lights is absolutely incredible. Maybe thats who you've seen. They have 100% not a single bit of power contrary to what they think.

  2. I have two brand new Wii Fit's with the software up for sale on e-bay for $175. I'll discount it for EMTBravo members to $150 with local pickup in Larchmont or if it's lower westchester, I could deliver it over the weekend. It's extremely hard to find these in stores, if not impossible.

  3. Other than a quality of life issue, how is this a police problem to "round em up?" Shouldn't the stores put locking wheels or hire competent security? I don't live in Greenburgh, but I would be damned if my tax money went to rounding up private store carts.

That's bull. I don't even know if this unit even exists, or if it's just a rumor. The Crossroads Shopping Center area in Fairvew a few years back was faced with people going to Caldor or K-Mart or Walmbaums and walking home with the shopping cart and dumping it in the street, next time they went shopping they didn't bring the cart back, instead they just stole a new one. There were shopping carts all over the side streets.

That's theft, and something that costs these businesses thousands of dollars a year. At the height of the situation, you couldn't even get a cart at these stores because they had none.

I won't disagree that some resources could be used better. However, there's more to this issue, don't read a book by the cover as they say.

  4. I feel that toning out for non-emergency traffic like meeting announcements or drill is just pointless and a waste of our valuable limited radio frequencies. I'm sure most if not all active members have e-mail or text messaging.

Today I Heard On The Scanner Tarrytown tone out and say there up coming events and they said that they have a drill at the Tarrytown Fire Traning Center. And I was wondering what it is like and what they have there and were it is.

  6. It doesn't make any sense that the police would spend all that money on a armored truck to sit around for a movie shoot. The airbag was probably an ESU scene or drill.

i believe it is the NYPD ESU's photo observation truck (aka P.O.T.). It is brought to places in the city where a movie or photo shoot is being produced. As you can see in the photo, there is a large airbag for a shoot.

  7. If a LEO is outside his respective home region on mutual aid and potentially outside of his radio's repeater range what are some of the plans that different agencies have in terms of communication and unified command? By using their department issued radio outside of their home territory they may potentially be stepping on a licensed user of that frequency. The agency would only be licensed for their home territory and not a broader territory.

  8. The Vizio's are nice, but they aren't the sharpest LCD Tv's out there. The Sony's are really hands down the best, but the price is significantly more. Is it really blurry or just a tad bit unclear?

    Ok guys, can anyone help!

I just purchased a VIZIO 32 inch LCD HDTV, and I need some help with the settings. I have the TV in my bedroom and I need to see what settings works the best. My display seems just a little blury!

    Any imput will be appreicated!

    Thanks

  9. I manage a stock of laptops that corporate travelers use and have never had a situation where gunk gets into the LCD panel itself. What you do to it can't possibly beat what these people are doing to it unless you are tying a rope to it and dragging it behind your truck on a dirt road.

Take some pictures of the problem. I would really like to see it.

Well, it is dust, and other junk, as you said. My laptop migrates, as a laptop would. It either sits in my room, or comes with me, on excursions. Would say that 90% of the time it sits in my room.

  10. It's probably a defect in the LCD panel itself.

I disagree with JTACIJ. Circuit City Firedog and the Geeksquad are just going to box up your laptop, send it off and have the LCD replaced for a large price. Both companies have a severly tarnished history with poor quality work and service. You can easily get the parts and do it yourself with a basic screwdriver.

I have used this company before for LCD replacements. Check them out. They will even install the screen for you for absolutely free if you send the laptop to them. I was very happy with them and continue to recommend them to friends and associates. http://www.screentekinc.com/

DO NOT TAKE IT APART ON YOUR OWN YOU CAN RUIN THE LIQUID CRYSTALS, BRING IT TO CIRCUIT CITY OR BEST BUY GEEK SQUAD.
