My opinion on KME is very strong, THEY ARE GARBAGE!! We have 2 and a 3rd on order, Why you ask? Because according to our commishers they are cheap and were only going to have them for 15 years, we dont need some big expensive brand. We just sold our 1980 Sutphen engine that was refurbed in 1996. That was the best piece of equipment we could've asked for ran first due to many fires even after getting our new K-Mart Engineering pumpers, we had only minor problems with the transmission and that was it. The KME's on the other hand have had a looooong list of problems, the lated being the 1 engine likes to become electrified when @ structure fires, @ 2 of the 3 fires we've had in this past 2 weeks they truck has shocked guys while packing hose. A few other depts. in the area run Sutphens and LOVE them, seems any one around here w/ a sutphen tower falls in love with them and doesn;t want to switch.

Our boxes are set so there is a FAST on every 2nd alarm.
As for requirements to be a FAST member in my dept. you must be a cleared interior FF for 1 year, have FAST, FF Survival, Truck Co. Ops., and Mask Confidence.
And for the FAST to respond as a FAST there must be at least 6 Interior Qual. ppl, at least 4 must be FAST as per department specs.

looks to me like its just a gated wye, with a nozzle on one end and a hose on the other, seems logical, instead of having 10 handlines running up a hill u have 1 or 2 with a bunch of nozzles covering a large area.

Me and a few guys were sittin around @ our fire house this mornign just after midnight and one of us realized that our fire horn had been sounded as if there was an alarm, yet no ones pager had gone off. So i go out to my car to get my gear figuring our pagers didnt go off and my phone rings, its my brother asking what the alarm was because his pager hadn't tripped either, so as i hang up with him a few others arrive @ the fire house and they say the same. So we go in to our radio room and landlined 36 Control, apparently something was struck by lightning and they had no way to page out departments out side the range of the tower @ the 911 center. So they pressed the button that sounded every horn/siren in the county and those who no longer use a horn/siren were duty paged by a local department. The low band worked fine so the plan was to have every station manned in the county to dispatch its own calls. Then they decided that they were going to use one centalized department per battalion who had capabilities to tone out the rest of the battalion. I think for as unprepared as everyone was it went kinda smoothly. The only thing is EMS paging was down also, and i was the EMT on the midnight-6am duty crew for my VAC and me nor ne one else on my crew was notified. I guess its a good thing that alot of departments around here still have active horn/sirens as warning devices.
Apparently now everything should be working right now, didnt hear any test pages done tho.

Injured Monroe firefighter taken by medivac
A Lakeside Fire Company firefighter was taken by medivac helicopter about 30 minutes ago to a Westchester hospital after he was injured at the Trout Brook Engine and Hose Company in the Chester Fire District.
Details as to what happened were unclear, but one assistant fire chief reported that a vehicle backed into the unidentified firefighter, who has been with the department for more than 25 years. The firefighter, who was said to have suffered a leg injury, was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
He was treated at the scene by Mobile Life and Chester volunteer ambulances.
Monroe firefighters were on stand-by at the Chester firehouse as Chester firefighters were responding to a fire call on Route 17M near a sports complex that is under construction.
From what i heard it was a Lakeside Chief who was pinned against the fire house when one of his members was backing into a parking spot and his boot got stuck on the gas. From what i hear no broken bones, ripped some muscle up, and punctured his femoral atery, reported to be in stable cond. @ Westchester Med. Center.

I must agree with the mechanic thing. We currently have an engine being manufactured and our Captain is a truck mechanic and that has been very helpful through the process of designing the piece. There is no doubt in my mind that regular firefighters should be on apparatus committees along with the officers. On our committee we have 2 chiefs, 1 commish., our capt., our Lt., our chief driver, and 4 reg. ff's (3 are ex capts. n 1 an ex chief). Even though our committee is only 11 people some meetings have had more than 20 people attend. Everyones input is wholy accepted.

The fire was just outside the village, but the people who called it in called the KJFD 7-digit emergency number so it went strait to KJ EMS, who dispaches KJFD, and they dispatched KJFD. As for goin in, KJFD has a dozen Scott 4.5 60 minute packs which when they arrive on scene of a fire they pack up and do a primary search, once the primary is complete they step back and go in to a defensive operation until Mombasha arrives. Also contrary to belief KJFD responds as the primary fire agency 24/7, even on sabbath and holy holidays.
As for apparatus they have:
3 Engines
1 Heavy Rescue
1 Rearmount Tower
I Brush Truck
1 Command Vehicle

Monticello — For half a century, the Nachimovsky family has owned a 4½-acre property near Monticello. In its heyday, the land held the Ash Hotel and the Monticello Tentarena, a renowned Catskills theater.
On Aug. 14, Avraham and Myriam Nachimovsky drove from the city to Joyland Road to check on the two bungalows that are left. Avraham had stayed there last summer.
"We did not recognize the place. We passed it," said Myriam Nachimovsky. "We were in shock. We couldn't believe it was all gone."
Their two bungalows had been burned down, and their 40-foot trailer was gone.
"They call me up and tell me the houses are gone," recounts Myriam and Avraham Nachimovsky's son, Yoram Nachimovsky, a lawyer in New York City. "You can't just go and burn somebody's property."
At their son's urging, the couple gathered paperwork and reported the bungalow burning to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.
As it turns out, the Monticello Fire Department had burned the two bungalows months ago at the request of an employee of Concord Associates, developer Louis Capelli's local company. The employee apparently thought the bungalows were on Concord land.
Monticello fire Chief Glenn Somers said firefighters were told it was Concord property and burned down the buildings as they had other bungalows.
Henry Zabatta, a consultant working for Capelli, said it was purely a mistake.
"These bungalows were adjacent to our property, and we thought they were ours," Zabatta said. "It was an error. It wasn't done maliciously."
Concord Associates and firefighters have taken down about 50 old bungalows during the past three years.
The Nachimovskys' bungalows were nothing extravagant — a couple of bedrooms, a wrap-around porch — but they were theirs. They question how their bungalows were burned without any notice.
"He must know what property is his or not," Yoram Nachimovsky said. "They've offered my parents money for the property before."
Zabatta said Concord Associates may well have made an offer to the Nachimovskys, as they have to many others.
Yoram Nachimovsky said the family's bungalows were in good condition, there was furniture inside and his dad had stayed there last summer.
Zabatta said the bungalows that were burned were abandoned. "The fire department can attest to that also. They'll tell you what the bungalows were like. These were in the woods. They weren't livable."
The family just wants back what they had, Yoram Nachimovsky said.
"Put back the trailer. Put back the bungalows. Leave us where we were," he said. "And also, apologize."
