  1. Banksville recieves funding from both Greenwich and New Castle. A large part of the hamlet of Banksville is actually in CT(the main shopping center), and they are actually in the town of Greenwich charter as Station 7;they are also recognized by the state of CT as an "in state" fire company, instead of a mutual aid company, such as Armonk or Vista would be. They have their own automatic, first due assignment areas in the town of Greenwich. From what I understand, back in 1949 when they were organized, they did recieve help from Greenwich, in return for helping cover the extreme northern areas. Not only does GW give them yearly funding(they are part of the town budget every year, the same as a GW company would be), they are(were?) included in the town's regular apparatus replacement plans. It used to be, if they needed something, they would come to GW, the same way they would New Castle, to ask for funding.

At least this is the way it was when I was still in GW.

  2. Very bare and cheap looking...But it's a Seagrave, so not cheap!!

Good luck with the new rig.

How on earth do you consider that bare and cheap looking!? My God, you need to wander out to the midwest and see what bare and cheap looking really is. I'd love it if more rigs out here looked as good as that one does!

  3. They died in the Port Chester side but the buildings went over the line in to GREEWICH also.

Hey Angelo, I'd heard stories over the years that there was actually a "discussion" about whose jurisdiction the fire building was in before the initial alarm was transmitted. Any truth to that? I'd like to think not, but knowing how GFD has operated over the years, it wouldn't surprise me.

If that fire had happened 20 years later, there's a pretty good chance I'd have been there myself. I was known to frequent PC bars just a little over the years!

  4. I post on this site to try and "share my knowledge" to paraphrase the banner. I also am interested in what's going on where I grew up, not to mention just a plain and simple love of the hobby!(not win some kind of lottery) Sorry to insult the boss, but as far as I'm concerned, this whole rewards idea is nothing but a bribe! You can take any points I may "earn" and give them to whomever you like;I have no intention of ever using them. As far as the whole profanity issue; I do prefer to be treated like an adult, not a child. Last time I checked, many FF's are known to use SOME of those words on occasion.

  5. I don't like the whole idea of "rewards". If you need to basically bribe people to post things, why is the site even here? If people don't want to post,(or whatever else they do in the hobby) just for the enjoyment of it, why are they doing it? I think it's a very bad idea.

If someone has a personal vendetta against another member, here's one more way to **** with them. There is so much infighting in the fire service already, this will just encourage more on this site. Plus it could very well turn into a pissing contest. I could personally care if I get any points or rewards.

    Just my 2 cents.

  6. Nice find!!!

It would be great if Mamaroneck re-aqquired this and restored it- I don't think they have an antique, plus it would be cool to have a more "modern" antique.

When was this retired from Mamaroneck?

It was retired in 1996 when their current engine came in. GOD, If I had a garage, I'd find the $4,000, and buy it right now. From the looks of it, it's worth much more than that.

  7. There are actually plenty more that were never mentioned in the book. None of the commercials were listed in the back. The Tallman and Verplank Snorkel's are both still in service in upstate NY. The best place to learn about the where abouts of Young's is the Young thread on Firepics. I forget how many page's it's up to, but there are plenty of NY rigs and former NY rigs on it!

As for the Hillcrest IHC/Young Snorkel, it's supposedly still out my way. It served at Harrisburg IL, until 2001, and is supposed to be privately owned in Mount Vernon IL. I'm still trying to find out for sure.

  8. BEDFORD HILLS PUMPER IS AT BEDFORD HILL WOMAN'S PRISON. IT REPLACED A WARD LAFRANCE/C FORD PUMPER. <_<

So they do still have a FD at the womens prison HUH? I was told by guys at Bedford Hills FD back in the 90's that the prison got rid of their rig. <_<

  9. Regardless, this person DIED. Show some compassion.

If this ride can be made safer, then every effort should be made to remediate it.

We should have the same attitude in the fire service.

Thoughts and prayers are with the affected.

Yes I'm sorry that she died, but she disregarded safety regulation's. So in my opinion she brought it on herself. If you're stupid enough to do something like that, you need to be prepared for the consequences. And yes I've done my fair share of REALLY stupid things, including on rides at amusements parks. I just got lucky.

What's going to really piss me off, is when the lawyers get ahold of this(I'm sure they aleady have!). They will go after everyone humanly possible, just for the money's sake.

As for maker the ride's safer, they pretty much are already, as long as you follow the rules. I think they've actually made rides TOO safe these days, and really taken too much of the thrill out of them. I go on these things for the adrenaline rush, personally.

  10. I never even knew they even had a fire brigade with apparatus- GREAT photos! Thanks for sharing, Frank!

Hopefully, one of our OFD guys will fill us in as to the current situation.

I also am curious to know what happened to the above rigs.

Thanks. My story on the mack is interesting. The prison mechanic was the driver of the rig in the parade, and he told me the shop was outside the fence, down by the Ossining sewer treatment plant down by the river. So one day I go down there to see him, and he was willing to let me shoot the rig without "going through the proper channels", as long as I was not in sight of a guard tower!LOL I figure he's probably retired by now,so hopefully I won't get anyone in trouble!

  11. The only other rig I've known to serve at Sing Sing was this 1933 Buffalo 500/200. this first pic was taken by John Floyd at Macungie PA in 1984. He thought that the rig was privately owned at the time. I've looked through my Buffalo book, but I've not been able to figure out where this rig may have come from.

  12. I had the opportunity back in 1992 to shoot the "FD" at Sing Sing Prison in Ossining. I didn't even realize they still had an active rig until I saw it in Ossining's annual parade one year. This 1960 Mack B 1000/350 was said to have come from Babylon LINY in 1986.

Is this rig(or any) still active at the prison???

  13. Thought I'd try posting some stuff from my collection and see what reaction I get.

Here's archville to start with. Old E236 was this 1966 IHC/Hahn 750/500. I remember being able to still make out Scarborough Engine Co on this rig.

Can anyone tell me the exact story behind Archville's formation?
