  1. The Gap distribution warehouse in Fishkill had them intermixed in the their warehouse racks. The thought being if a fire started at the bottom of the rack, the sprinkler above it would trip before reaching the top of the rack and destroying all of the product. They also do not use wooden pallets, all items are stored on solid 1" thick Oak boards. All fork trucks/lifts were battery powered. They also had two 250,000 Gallon water tanks with both electric and diesel pumps.

  2. Being in agreement with Photounit, In the past I've decoded the Dutchess Frequencies and gave them to Dave NF2G. There are huge benefits to being able to monitor other departments. With Pagers and Radios being able to decode more than two sets of tones, it's great to be able to be alerted to other departments. Especially when you live outside your district you can monitor the homefront. For those that photograph scenes the county coordinators tone is a godsend. For those that know they are second alarm, they can get a head start to group at the firehouse (Saving lives and time). I wish the county would have one tone to alert the entire county for disasters. Hopefully this will come in the future as the county does not have time to tone out the entire county that there is a reported tornado or other disaster threatening departments, eventually they may have one tone to keep us all in the know. As they do now they tone out the county coordinators that there is a weather advisory for Dutchess County, unless we have pagers and scanners on monitor it falls upon deaf ears. As they state further weather bulletins will be broadcast as time permits.

As for those that are out there to prank and cause trouble, the tools are there whether the information is known, or can be obtained, that will not stop them, what needs to be done is education that the penalties far outweigh the prank and to deter them.

Anyone with a computer and tone DSP software can figure out the tones.

  3. I've been busy working on getting our new website together so today I took advantage of the nice weather. (Of course it was overcast and starting to drizzle a little as I took most of the photos) Here is all of our apparatus except one of the Chiefs cars. Photos by me, thanks to Paul T. for helping me shuffle these around.

Could not add this to original post so quoted it. Now have 1st Asst Chiefs car photo, its complete except the Fire Safety Trailer.

  4. I love the color of rombout's trucks there one of my favorite trucks can't wait to see what there new reacue is gonna look like if there really getting one.I have a question though are the hazmat trailer and the boat out of station one or two the trailer looks like it comes from station one by the picture and do they have three chiefs cars because it skips from 1 to 3 I'm assuming they have three.

HazMat trailer is currently out of station 1, at one time it was housed at station 2 and pulled by 62-62 if needed. Boat is at station 1, but is not in service, it was recently purchased and is a new endeavor for this company so training is needed.

As noted in the original post, I still need to get a picture of the second chief's car which looks almost exactly like the first one.

  5. New Rescue is in the works with a committee, it don't believe it will be as large as "Huge"sonvilles (j/k). Response District for RFD is 14.3 miles, with two stations on each side of town, Route 9 divides the district areas. 6214 (1986 Pierce) was replaced with 6211 (2006 Sutphen). It never got put on the market and has been serving as a spare/reserve/driver training.

Without getting too much into response details:

    Station 1 contains:

    • 6211
      • 1500gpm/1000 gallons
      • First due for structure fires
      • First due for Commercial Alarms (station 1 area)
    • 6212
      • 2000gpm/750 gallons
      • Base Pumper 2nd due
      • First due for Car Fires and Auto accidents (station 1 area)
    • 6214
      • 1500gpm/1000 gallons
      • Reserve

    Station 2

    • 6213
      • 2000gpm/1000 gallons
      • First Due for structure fires in station 2 area
      • First Due Commercial Alarms in Station 2 area
      • First Due for Car Fires and Auto Accidents (station 2 area)

  7. Newer cameras come with image stabilization that helps out tremendously. Also if you have a view finder use that with the camera anchored against your face, the less movement the better. Sometimes leaning on a building or against a pole will help you keep it steady. Tripods are ideal, but hard to store in the back pocket. Some cameras have a delay you can use that will allow you to depress the button and then hold the camera steady before the picture is taken. Pushing that button moves it a little adding some shake.

  8. there is no such thing as a "really cool call" when life is lost, people are fighting for their lives or people lose all their possessions. Unique calls...yes....interesting calls...yes...I'll even give you that I've seen some really "cool" things done at calls.

I couldn't agree more, sometimes I wish everyone would realize that this is a public website and as such anyone can come across these posts such as the media, victims, etc.. We always try to hold the media to a higher level in their reporting and somehow we fail miserably at trying to keep our standard higher.

  10. The Pro-94 is made by Uniden for Radio Shack, the others are mostly made by GRE, that being said it takes different software to program it. I typically program it by hand since it does not support alpha tags and PL tones.

In getting software to program it you only have one choice that I know of and that is Scancat lite plus.

Here is the Radio Ref wiki page with info about the scanner.

  11. As it is newsworthy in another post, and many others are posting new chief vehicles, Rombout is on a 6 year replacement cycle for chiefs cars. This one replaces a 2002 Ford F-150, It was purchased from Warnock and not sure whom did the lights, siren, striping. Was able to get some new photos for the Webpage last night. The homegrown, command center for the rear is in the works by one of our members.

  12. It is a great service - however you need to be a state employee . You need to send in a state photo id with expiration, or a state paystub and another form of id.

I used my NY Drivers license # and it worked, I am not a state employee.

    http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/gate/remotedb.htm

    From the site:

Anyone can access these databases onsite at the State Library. Remote access is available as follows:

    * "NYSL P Card" - New York State Library Borrower's Card number starts with "P"

    * "NYSL R Card" - New York State Library "Resident" Borrower's Card number starts with "R"

    * NOVELNY - NY State Driver License/Photo ID number

  13. Town of Fishkill Includes:

Dutchess Junction (Red Engine, and White Engine (From Oyster Bay Long Island)

    Glenham (Red)

    Chelsea (Red)

    Rombout (Lotus Creme)

    Village of Fishkill (Red w/Black)

As for the history of the color, Rombout was formed in 1971 and such we did not have any tradition on colors to stick with, at the time there were studies done suggesting that Red was not the most visible color for Fire Trucks. One of our charter members was from the Albany area and liked the color from the Town of Colonie fire department that was using Lotus Creme. www.coloniefire.com

  15. One of my first shots...... This was taken at 5:49 AM..... I know it didn't take me 19 minutes from time of M/A dispatch to get on-scene.... I was hearing reports of collapse as I was leaving my driveway..... Unfortunately there's no exif data in your shots John so I can't compare the times.....

The photo before I saw you and after I passed you were stamped at 05:41 and 05:45, (6812 from the same angle as your first shot, and the other the house from a few weeks ago above) looking at my camera I'm 2 minutes shy of an atomic clock and also my computer, so I'd venture to guess you're off by about 5 minutes.

Also I stand corrected it was OSB not Plywood.
