  1. Earlier this year, Ebe Pereira, the wife of Union Vale Station 2 Captain Joe Pereira and mother of Firefighter Mario Pereira, suffered a devestating brain aneurysm. Initially she was not expected to survive but through the grace of God she did and continues to recover although with complications. The Union Vale Fire Company will be hosting a Country Western Night to benefit the Pereira family on Saturday June 20th at 7pm at Tymor Park on Bruzgul Rd (CR-21) in Lagrangeville. There will be a DJ, dancing, Raffles and Door prizes. There will also be food and beverages available for purchase. Donations are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

In addition to the Country Western Night the Union Vale Fire Company and Rescue Squad will be holding a raffle. The first prize is two Yankee tickets vs. Detroit on Sat. July, 18th. Second Prize is six tickets to the Hudson Valley Renegades for any non firework game. The third prize will be $100 cash. The drawing will be July 10, 2009 and the donation is $5 per ticket.

Country Western Night tickets are available at the door or by calling 845-656-3541. The Yankee Raffle tickets will be available at the Country Western Night or by calling 845-224-8725 or see a Union Vale member.

The Union Vale Fire Company would like to thank the Town of Union Vale for the use of Tymor Park, Transcare for the donation of the Yankee tickets, and the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Please come out and have some fun to support the family of a brother.

Excellent sounds like a fantastic time for a good cause. We'll see you there!

  2. When it comes to rumors they are indeed a big part of ems. The reason I started this thread is to get information on what is coming down the pipe. It affects everyone in the Duthcess EMS System. The last merger in this county didn't go so well and i'm worried.

I am worried about the commercail agencies and their fight for the all mighty dollar....not the care they are providing, nor their response times. The agency I work for will have to pick up the pieces when the commercial agencies fail. When the dollar rears it's ugly head into a company that needs to make money and we start making financial choices over choices that are good for our paitents we should be providing care for.

I'm worried for my friends who because of circumstance have to work for these bogus outfits. The commercial agencies are paying their employee's dirt cheap money, or maybe they will give them a decent wage but charge them out the other end for health benefits. Lets face it someone is making money here and it's off the backs of you...the employee's and the people we are to serve.

  3. I think there are a couple of problems with EMS in Dutchess and the biggest seems to be who is going to pay for it. Towns, Fire Districts, and other forms of goverment need to stop dividing up the cost of the EMS service by the number of alarms in each district.

When it comes to Eastern Dutchess and those fire districts\departments involved with this has anyone looked at back to back calls in the towns?

  4. The article was good and it made a really good point. But how do you make accountability a factor in the volunteer fire service?

I really do feel that those who say i'm only a volunteer or we're only volunteers put emergency services as a whole back professionaly.

I wish there could be a way to create a more professional atmosphere for those who will quickly say "I'm only a volunteer."

Discipline is something that needs to be instilled back into emergency services.
