Will have to get used to the new layout, but looks great so far.

Prayers for all those involved and my wishes for a speedy recovery

Although I haven't been there in about 30 years, I know that Wilson Woods pool (just off the Hutch in Mt. Vernon) just reopened after a huge renovation including putting in a wave pool. I can't speak to how good it is but might be worth a look. You need a Westchester Cty. Parks pass to get in.

George was a great man who served his country in World War II, as well as serving the residents of Pelham Manor for over 40 years as a volunteer firefighter. He will be sorely missed.

Saw a piece on that over the weekend on "Nascar Nation" Dale's widow was on hand for the delivery and dedication, and was made an honorary Chief of the Mooresville FD.

I've used PrintWear Plus a couple of times and have had great luck. They do a nice job and the turnaround time is failry quick.

Man pleads not guilty in fatal crash

WHITE PLAINS — A man charged with manslaughter in the car-crash death of a 54-year-old Connecticut woman when he was driving the wrong way Thanksgiving morning on the Hutchinson River Parkway told police he had three beers before the accident, according to court records.
Peter Roshak, 25, of Yonkers, pleaded not guilty yesterday at his arraignment on an indictment charging him with second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree assault and driving while intoxicated in the Nov. 24, accident in Pelham Manor.
According to authorities, Roshak was driving north in the southbound lanes between Sandford Boulevard and Boston Post Road early that morning when he hit two cars and then collided head-on with a limousine in which sisters Dorothy Bauer and Carolyn O'Boyle were passengers. Bauer suffered extensive internal injuries and died at Sound Shore Medical Center. O'Boyle, 61, remains hospitalized and is unable to walk as a result of her injuries.
The sisters were heading to Kennedy Airport for a flight to Hawaii, where they frequently vacationed.
According to court records, Roshak refused to take a blood-alcohol test at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx after telling police that he was driving to his girlfriend's house and that he had three beers before driving that morning. Blood that hospital staff took from Roshak two hours after the accident was eventually tested based on a search warrant and registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 percent.
Westchester County Judge Joseph Alessandro allowed Roshak to remain free on the $25,000 bail that was set following his arrest after the crash. Roshak faces a maximum of five to 15 years in state prison on the most serious charge, second-degree manslaughter.

I'm not sure that I agree that the medics are putting on a dog and pony show for the Town. Yes, they are being posted in high profile locations, but these locations seem to have been determined by thinking about potential trouble spots where EMS may be needed (i.e. athletic events, the train station). Also to say that the FD doesn't do this isn't fair - how often are the members at schools speaking to the kids about fire safety, fire prevention, etc? How often are the Cub Scouts visiting the firehouse and learning about the fire department? Interacting with the public is a good thing for everyone involved. It lets the taxpayer know what services are available in the town, and may lead people to push for more, i.e an actual bus. It's also good for the medics beacause it makes people aware of what services they provide as well as what they are NOT there to do.
Just my opinion.....

Good point, Hoss.
Pelham is a bedroom community. One of the reasons people live there is because of it's proximity to NYC via train, and I would suspect that during the morning and evening rush, a large percentage of the population is passing through the Pelham train station. Add to that the 200+ passengers per train that stop at Pelham coming from or going to somewhere else, and you have a very large potential patient base. I don't think it is such a bad idea. Let' remeber that we are talking about something that has been in place for only a few days. Let's give it some time, and see the numbers in black and white. If there isn't a definite need for medics at the train station once the call volumes are analyzed, then by all means I hope the Pelham politicos and Empress management can sit down and find a better utilization of resources. But again, let's give it some time.

Shantz, that was the first thing that went throgh my mind as well!

Just a thought..with all the devestation caused by the tsunami in southeast Asia, perhaps a department down there would be a good candidate for a donation. I know that cost might be prohibitive, but who knows, maybe the Red Cross or some other relief agency would be willing to step up to the plate.
-
Thanks for the quick answer, 10-75.
All that equipment sitting idle...man, imagine what some financially strapped rural departments would do for just one rig!

Shantz:
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I was just reposting that article which I saw today. I've been following this thread since it started. Guess I should've put it in quotes!

Just curious...what happens to the actual rig when the unit is disbanded?

From the Secret List:
There is also an interesting article on Firehouse.com worth checking out. A Chief in N.C. recently held a drill for his firefighters that was a surprise-as it was a live fire. The Chief had staged his members at their firehouse-under a different planning session. They had no idea that they were going to be dispatched to a working structure fire. While it appears everything went very well, it serves as a good reminder to us of how critical it is for us to prepare for any live fire training by following NFPA 1403 to a "T". Check it out at:

Just a couple weeks after the loss of FDNY FF Christian Engeldrum, another brother is killed serving his country. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Check out a place called Printwear Plus in Mamaroneck (on Prospect Ave.) We have ordered workshirts from them before, and I also just got a bunch of jackets and shirts made up there. They do a nice job.

From what I understand, these new cars will only be in service on the Harlem line. The poor slobs on the New Haven line (myself included) will continue to ride on the old equipment. Unfortunately it looks like the same problems that plagued MN last winter will continue again in the coming months, as shown by the fifteen minute delay encountered thsi morning after last night's snow. I know 15 minutes doesn't sound like a long time, but imagine yourself on the platform this morning at 5:45 AM, and I think you'll undertand!

Excellent reading list ALS. I'll be picking them up to read over the long winter ahead.

Is the flycar still going to be based in PFD's quarters or is it going somewhere else in the town?

There is a place in Albany called Scanner World. They have a huge selection of scanners and scanner related stuff. I've ordered from them a bunch of times and have had nothing but good experiences. If they don't sell the crystals themselves they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Now watch...some slick defense attorney will claim insanity and she will get off with a slap on the wrist or maybe some probation at best.

Quick question....anybody know how many members, in addition to the BHFD chief, responded with the tankers?
